Aside from youtube and slingbox..how to watch american tv shows

We signed up with airtel and got all the channels, except languages that we didnt understand. I am really bummed about HBO in that all I see are b grade 80's movies and I am NOT impressed with reliving "friends" again. How can I get my american channels, without a slingbox and youtube. Is there a way to project from a laptop on to a tv and watch it that way?

is there a device that I can buy in bangalore that can stream to my TV? I dont know the technical aspects...but if anyone can advise, I can show dh the thread and tell him to go do it. I went to nbc, cbs and abc and they said that viewing isnt possible outside the US.

It would be nice to be able to watch CURRENT shows over here..if anyone has done it.... I welcome a Gurus step by step!!

And how to get unedited HBO. Watching the HBO shows edited and cut..just doenst offer the same meaning....LOL

If your Laptop has a HDMI port, its pretty straight forward, all the components handshake and figure out things by themselves. Else, if its a LCD TV, or projector - it would have a VGA port, all laptops have a VGA port. Thank you...but wont I need some sort of software or "box" to capture the channels? I will not be using youtube or the like....I have read various sites (habu, hava, slingplayer, etc etc etc) are subsription based programs that enable you to get the channels...

Any reccomendations?

How about just logging into the website of the channel you want to watch. I am in US - I rarely sit in front of TV these days. watch it on cbs.com, abc.com or nbc.com- episodes available the very next day - stream it to your LCD!!

The OP has already tried that: "I went to nbc, cbs and abc and they said that viewing isnt possible outside the US." Those websites, including Hulu.com, don't stream outside of US.

Here's what I have done to get US channels - at least in theory.

. Bought Apple TV 1st Gen.
. Hacked the Unit to install Boxee
. Successfully got many of the shows from abc, nbc, etc. with pretty decent picture quality on my 46" sharp TV

I was hoping to take the setup as-is and connect to my DSL modem (e.g. from Airtel or some other provider) and get all the shows in Bangalore. If nbc, abc and others are sniffing the request headers, then I might have to play with proxy like fiddler2 or like to get around this problem.

I know it is illegal to share recorded content that is copyrighted...

But then thats what we are doing on youtube too....

Almost any American TV show would be available the very next day on torrents.

Did you download those shows onto ATV using Boxee or thru hulu app?
I thought hulu was banned on boxee.

I called up tivo support, but their box does not work even in Canada let alone India.
