where to buy...

Post by mom2gurls »

1. An adjustable shower curtain rod. Sounds silly but the previous tenants took it with them. I have been to hypercity, mega mart and big bazaar..found lots of shower curtains...no adjustable rods like in the US.

2. A mattress pad (topper). Again, bought three kurlon mattresses from HomeStore..for my kids..thought thye would suffice (since they are just kids)...all of them are complaining of aches and pains of a 6 inch mattress....although the store said it would be perfectly fine. I need to get a mattress pad, foam topper anything a couple of inches thick to give them a good nights rest.

3. A blender....a US kind of one. I was going to pick one up an was informed that it was mixer/grinder for chutneys and idlees. I told them I need to make smoothies, milkshakes and was led to a handheld blender/contraption. I dont want that. I want the type you pour the stuff into the vessel and pour it out. If that is not possible then what kind of mixer should I get..I dont need the extra blades or contraptions. I have been to hypercity, megamart and big bazaar...no dice.

4. Is there anystore like "home depot" or "Best Buy". We are in whitefield and have pretty much purchased all things so far from hypercity and homestore and big bazaar and well home. But it would be nice to get a locals POV on where you can get good quality merchandise under one roof.

5. Seafood..fresh seafood...we went to SPAR..but wasnt impressed..hypercity is closer and easier..yet there meat department is atrocious.

6. Bread crumbs..hard as I try... I cannot find bread crumbs to make cutlets, burgers and kabobs.

7. Oh and a coffee maker..I dont mind heading to coffee day...but really, I need my own coffee maker..the employees at homestore had one (indian brand)..and they themselves said..dont trust an indian brand.....I really only need something to make a single cup. Again..purchased the beans at hypercity...but they had an espresso machine...I dont need anything that fancy. LOL

We are in whitefield and I dont mind traveling out 30-45 minutes to get it all done in one spot.

Thanks in advance....

I think Indian mixers would work, get one from a shop where they allow returns (hypercity does), try it and return if it does not work.

Have you been to Home Town - Marathahalli, expensive but you get almost everything there.

You may want visit to Croma or Girias (for coffeemaker / blender ) A mixie works fine for me for smoothies. You can find both the stores on Inner Ring road. Croma is opp. Oasis mall and Girias is near the Kohler showroom about half a mile from Croma.

Mattress topper - I haven't found ones like in the US. However, you may be able to get some thick cotton quilts made-to-order to top off your mattresses ? You could find a local guy who makes cotton beds and give your specs.

And for the Bread crumbs - I microwave a couple slices of bread for a min or two (until they lose their moisture and become tough) and give them a quick run in the mixie. You could make as much as you'd like. Voila!
