First Web Browser for India Launched !!

Post by P_Jani »

IE, MOZILLA, FIREFOX, NETSCAPE NEVIGATOR,... AND NOW, EPIC !!

Hidden Reflex, a Bangalore based software startup, has launched a browser targeted at Indian audiences: Epic.

The browser has been created by a team of Indian engineers on the open-source Mozilla platform, it said in a statement.

Any internet user can now download the browser for free by logging onto the website www.epicbrowser.com “Epic provides a uniquely Indian browsing experience. Epic’s India sidebar supports Indian content by providing users access to the latest national and regional news from popular publications, live television channels, videos, stock quotes, live cricket scores, top music albums, and local events”, it said.

Users can choose from 1500+ customized Indian themes and wallpapers ranging from freedom fighters to famous Bollywood and regional film stars. Writing in Indian languages is supported throughout Epic. Users can instantly write in Indian languages on any webpage or in Write, Epic’s free built-in word processor. Twelve Indian languages are currently supported, the statement said.

Free antivirus scanning and healing is built into Epic, while another security measure warns users when they’re about to visit potentially dangerous websites

..............

Why Indians cannot launch some software product of their own? Yes western countries have the financial muscle to dominate & survive but still appliations like a WEB BROWSER which is free and gains popularity mostly on its own merit, can be created here noh. Quite a few Indian corporates today do have money to be a little innovative

I think, it's 10 MB ... Their site says its Mozilla Based.

Epic: first web browser for India/from India

So, you dont need any other extra plugin or software to type in indic language....

Great!

From the "About us"

{The company also has three patents pending related to its product innovations. The company’s vision is to become the first globally recognized, consumer-oriented software product company in India. According to Alok Bhardwaj, CEO and Founder of Hidden Reflex, “We want to prove that India can be a hub for innovation in software and technology." }

Patents 'Pending' means nothing. Its is the same as me or FFH buying lotto tickets. Buying a lotto ticket doesn't mean we have hit the powerball or mega millions. If so, we would have been millionaires many many many many times over. Maybe even richer than Mr.Buffet. :p

I seem to get an impression that its a cross between a portal and a browser..kinda a hybrid browser with no real value added to it.

What value really you expect with indegenious browser. I think we all lived with monopolistic browser issues since decade or more. Every release had a bug and painful until it stablizes
. Atleast someone trying to be innovative...

Just 2 cents

I feel it is a hybrid of iPhone type apps + browser.
Apps are displayed in the left nav bar.

the color black for the browser doesn't look good
