Water situation in Sarjapur Road area

Post by uy663z »

If you are thinking of buying or renting in the Sarjapur Road or Bellandur area (Sobha, Springfield, Sun City) etc, you might find the following email from an apartment mailing group interesting. Note that this in the middle of the monsoon season, one shudders to think what will happen next April or May. There are many things money cannot buy and it seems that water in Bangalore is one of them. And the water quality is unknown, one will only know in 20 years whether there were long term health implications (an IISc study shows alarming heavy metal levels in lake and ground water in this area).

Folks,

We are in the midst of a major water shortage. The main causes are

a.All our 6 borewells except two have run out of water. This is because of the numerous bore wells that have been dug in the vicinity as well as poor recharge to the water table that feeds these bore wells. Efforts are underway to revive a couple of bore-wells by re-drilling and flushing. Rainwater harvesting too is being revisited to ensure that most of the rain that the community receives gets stored or redirected to the recharge pits.

b.Tanker supply is erratic and completely subject to the whims of the suppliers. Besides charging arbitrary rates, arm twisting on choice of suppliers and volume of order is the rule of this mafia managed vendor group.

Many of the residents are unaware of the struggles that the community is going through to make clean water available 24x7 to each apartment. This is mainly due to the uninterrupted flow of water from our taps thanks to the round the clock efforts of the support team. This cannot be taken for granted anymore.

Money can only buy so much and for a precious commodity as water we are staring at the possibility of not being able to buy any even if we are willing to pay the highest premium.

Now is the time to think seriously on what YOU have done to reduce water consumption? Be honest to yourself and see if you have made a conscious effort towards conserving water. This includes

- REUSE RO discharge water for mopping, general household cleaning and watering plants. Please do not put the RO discharge pipe in the sink - put it into a bucket/drum and reuse that water.

- Use RO discharge water or STP treated water for watering gardens

- Wash cars/bikes only once a week - wipe with wet cloth when needed - Please do not give water from your apartment or ask them to get water from elsewhere to wash cars - instruct them to wash cars only on Saturdays.

- Reducing the water flow by adjusting the valve in shower and all taps

- Do not have bathtub baths.

- Closing the tap when brushing, shaving, during intervals in cleaning vessels etc.

- Using low water level option in washing machines, increasing the loads and reducing frequency of washes

- Educating domestic help on water conservation

Serious disaster is staring in our face and there is no more time for discussion and debates at this stage. Only action and quick compliance to time tested conservation methods will work now.

So PLEASE ACT NOW!

In response to questions from folks, the flats under discussion are Sobha Jasmine. Water is available now only part of the day and the swimming pool is closed.

Water problem in Bangalore and other major cities is well known, but this sounds very severe...Just curious, is this representative of water situation in Bangalore in general, or is it a very localized problem?
