Anyone Applied OCI in USA and picked up in India

Post by aurora12 »

I am in bit of a situation where OCI for my son is still pending and we have to leave for India. Website of Indian Consulate in Chicago indicates that OCI can be picked up in any of the FRRO office in India. Has anyone done this before? Any opinion.

I doubt if you can pick up OCI anywhere other than the Consulate where you submitted....
Not sure what is your concern. If you have to leave for India you can always go and collect the OCI upon return. If you are moving permanently then the best bet would be to wait until OCI is received. Other than this you can't do much as I am sure the process involved would be costly and time consuming.

Go to any photo studio with the picture requirement sheet and you should have no problem.

I don't think you can apply for OCI in US and pick up the card in India. The moment you apply for OCI, you need to send in your US passport. Without Passport you would not be able to travel.

Not true. When we applied over the net in India, we sent photocopies and not the original. When these had been approved, we had gone across with the originals for them to verify and affix the visa stickers.

This is true for some and not for others. I believe you belong to the SFO office/region and SFO requires original US PP to be mailed along with the OCI application packet. DC does not require the original US PP to be mailed until the docs are approved, dispatched from Delhi and reached the concerned Mission/Office.

In any case, not sure if one can apply in the US and collect the stamp in India :(. It might need a direct email inquiry to MHA or the consulate unless someone has gone through this before..

Good luck
