Corporal punishments at Jain Heritage Kempapura, Bangalore near Hebbal

WARNING - CORPORAL punishments are practised there. Send your kind at your risk.

I had high hopes on the school seeing their facility and hearing from our friends. This is our son's 3 week at the school and he hates it and doesn't want to go there anymore. Our son goes to the 5th grade and so far he has been hit by 2 different teachers on 2 different occassions. This is insane. He is one of the quietest kids and not one of those disruptive kinds. Dusters are hurled at children who talk in the class. In one instance the teacher threw the duster so hard at 2 kids that it hit the ground and split into 2. What if it had it one of them? It is not one or 2 teachers, but everybody seem to be practising CORPORAL punishments. I saw 2 kids kneeling down in the assembly hall the first time we visited the school. That should have sounded an alarm bell, but . .. . Teachers are very rude. One teacher called my son "You Fool" for not writing his name on a notebook. Today again he came home crying that he was hit by another teacher. The first time he was hit i spoke to the principal, but looks like no action has been taken. So much for "Acharya Devo Bhava. . . . "

Any parent who wants to join their children there may do so at their own risk. I am trying to pull my son out.

Hi,

We moved to blr recently. We are looking for good school for my daughter ( 6 yrs) in Ist grade. We will be in north bangalore.
As most schools closed their admissions we have very limited choice.

Jain Hertiage school is one among the three we are considering.

Pros:
Extra curricular activities, swimming pool, ball courts.
No pressure in academics, no home work for early grades.
Teacher to student ratio will be 1:25 untill grade 4 ( management said this during our visit there)
Class rooms are airy and big with projectors.
Snack and hot lunch served at school. Not sure about the nutrient part of it. Every week Menu will be published on line once the school starts in June.

Cons:
School is not up to the standards for the international level fee they demand ( nealy 1.5 lac for grade 1 , including transpotation)
Corporal punishment issue last august as reported by the OP here.
School is relatively new, so not much info on the teaching standards.
Classrooms can use a coat of painting - As it is sumer vacation now, may be they will do it before school starts. Not sure.

Approach road to the school is narrow and not so good.... but that is the case with most schools.

Can you please give more info on if the Corporal issue got resolved by the management?did they take any steps to avoid that in future ?
Were you able to pull your kid from the school in the middle of school year ?

Does any one else have their kids in this school ? Any information will help.

As I mentioned we have very limited options and we had to go with one of the three schools we applied for. ...

Hello,
Sorry saw your post just now. I hope you haven't admitted yor child there.
Well, the second time my son was hit, the principal defended her teacher and her school. I met her and the teacher in question the following morning. Initially they both said no such incident happened. After a lot of arguement, the yoga teacher admits of "tapping" my child. At that point i had made up my mind to pull him out of the school. Principal persuaded to try it out for another week, but our son refused. I had no choice but to admit him in Trio World School.

I then approached the press. Deccan Herald, Hindu and DNA published my story, but the school refused to take any action nor did they refund my money. KSCPCR - Karnataka State Commission for the protection of Child Rights - kscpcr.blogspot.com approached me after seeing the article in DNA and wanted to fight the case. All I wanted was public awareness about this school and amongst parents to standup against corporal punishments. After an year in May 2011 we had a hearing and the principal came with 2 supreme court attorneys. They tried to mangle the story, but the commissioner cut them off. The principal was reprimanded and they was forced to refund my money.

Principal had no remorse nor did she regret. She lacks integrity, according to me it is not a proper school. They don't provide a safe and enjoyable learning experience for children. The classes aren't interactive. The teachers aren't friendly. Bottom line is your child will attend a school, but won't spend quality time learning.
