Coming to Pune - Need Help

Post by MORNING STAR »

Hi All,

I am planning to visit Pune in Mid-Aug to check out schools and housing.

Would need help with regards to staying and getting around, would appreciate any help/suggestions:

1- Any good hotels - Not fancy ones

2- what is the best way to get around - Hire a Taxi / rental car.

3- Any recommenndations for good restaurants.

While I am there - if anyone else needs anything else to be checked, I would be more than happy to do it.

@Morning Star,
2: A rental car will cost you around Rs. 1000 per day. It will come with a driver (you have no choice in that matter). Travelling by Rickshaw is also a viable option, and will work out cheaper than the rental car.

3: For restaurant suggestions, check out http://forpune.com/questions/tagged/restaurants

Thanks Navin for the prompt response.

I don't mind travelling in rickshaws, but I have read many complaints on this forum about auto drivers in Pune.
Secondly not knowing the area well, they might take me for a royal ride.

Thanks also for the link on the restaurants.

Hello Morning Star

Wel come to Pune. Is this your first visit to the city? Do you have any idea where you want to look for housing and schools? A general area ( East or West etc) will help people guide you better.

As Navin said, hiring a rental car is probably good idea. Don't go to rickshaw option. You can rent a car directly from Airport or outside of the Train station.

There are tons of budget hotels. A decent hotel will cost you around Rs 2000 per day. There are other brand name hotels, but they will cost you around Rs 5000 per day, so take your pick.

Food - there are very nice restaurants in ABC Farms (Near Hotel Westin in Kalyani Nagar). Then Deccan also has couple of good places to eat.

You can PM me and I will share my e-mail id with you. I will be glad to help you in anything you need.

Thanks
