Power wheelchair for Parents

Post by deeppurple »

Hi,
My mother is facing extreme difficulty with walking because of Arithritis (back in India). They have tried differrent treatments but none seems to help much. At this point, she is unable to move and every single step causes her a lot of pain and agony. Unfortunately, I cannot go back to take care of her at this point. So, I was thinking of buying her a power wheelchair so that she can at least have some mobility. How good will it be? Has someone else faced similar situation ? Any help/opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Assuming I go with power wheelchair, I have different options like:
1. Buying the power wheelchair in India online so that it gets shipped to our house.
2. Buying the power wheelchair in US and then shipping it to India
3. Any other option?

The basic idea is to provide her with something so that she can move and cause no other agony to her (in the process to getting her a wheelchair)

Thanks!

Is this for indoor or outdoor use?

I would also be interested in the responses as my mother also has arthritis.

Power wheelchairs are available in India. If you buy in US do check out that the parts/repair partner is available in India. You can find more info at:

thanks cabo -- infact, we never thought seriously about knee replacement, but after doing a quick search on internet, it seems that it might be a better alternative.

Does anyone has knowledge of good hospitals that would knee replacement? If it works out, i will have to plan the logistics of going to India and getting it done myself. My parents are currently based in Bhopal.
