Status - US passports with PIO cards
I went for OCI application today and my application was returned because:
1. The photos has to be on sky blue background, Matt finish - When did this rule change? There is absolutely no mention of this in the application form.
2. The birth certificates of children should be included. They already have PIO why is this needed and where have they documented that this is needed? I could understand if they need parents birth certificate to prove they are of Indian origin, but why do they need children's birth certificate.
3. The marriage certificate has to be included. Where is this documented?
I am kind of frustrated as I got a feeling that they just wanted me to come again and were looking for all possible excuses. Honestly, I should have expected it as anything with government sector takes going back and forth multiple rounds with some vitamin M before it comes to completion :wink

Child's birth certificate proves that he or she is your child. And that proves that he or she is a child of a person eligible for an OCI. And that proves that he or she is also eligible for an OCI. Get the point?
A minor is eligible for OCI if and only if the parent is eligible for an OCI.

Armed with a PIO and a british passport, I got my OCI without repeated visits or vitamin M.
Perhaps they liked you and wanted to see you again and again.

Hmmmmm... isn't valid PIO enough proof that it's my child. And if it's needed, why can't they document the same on their website.

That's what I think it is -- they liked me :)

Harry - my advice is that you get all the documents that were asked and re-submit the application. With Indian govt offices, there is no point in trying to find out why certain things were not documented in the procedure - nobody will answer those questions. I certainly agree it can be frustrating and may need a few trips to the govt. office but if the documents are provided your OCI will be processed without any Vitamin M. Btw - this is a general issue in most Indian govt. offices.
