OCI timeframe and India trip

hello,
we will be going to india in mid Nov.
if we apply for OCI now, will we get it in time. we will be applying at sfo consulate.

why take the chance? take entry visa with your current US passport and then apply for OCI as well. Travel with the entry visa and collect the OCI when you return back. Atleast this is what we are doing. Applied in begining of sep, going in december. my wife and i are OCI, just applied for our kids OCI a few weeks back

Or you can apply now and not send in your US passports. I think there is a option of getting your US passports stamped after the OCI sticker is received from India.
