Big heartfelt thanks to one and all wise people who are sharing their wealth of experiences, do's, don'ts etc.. generously. Needless to say am belong to novice category learning things on daily basis from this forum. Will try to post details as much as i can for self-analysis.

Since not sure about destination at the moment hence place holder(?)

The intention of this post is to record the moments and the journey.(can go either Return2Chennai or Reroute to some other destination)

Background

We both are from middle class family moved (first me followed by wife after marriage) to US (with lots of Confidence, Enthusiasm) to gain money, global experience, etc..

Self(32, H1B - 12 Yrs in IT, will be completing 6 yrs around mid of 2012), INC
Spouse (30, H1B - 6 yrs in IT, some more years left), INC
Kid 1 (18-24 months), USC

Financial Facts

Couple of paid off apartments and grounds located in and around Chennai.
Decent Dollar savings - Overall sufficient funds with assets to settle down according to me.

Reasons to contemplate R2?

Well working in big fortune company with GC in process but received random audit on PERM LC (applied less than 365 days) with very remote possibility of getting it approved before the H1B expiration.

Wife is working in big company as well.

Please feel free to add comments if any.

More later.....

Career Front

1.Currently working with company which displaced Infosys as New no.2 among TOP 5 Indian Company in Senior Manager capacity with good perks. No regrets about not continuing with Big Database company in India due to the following facts.

i.The offered position is not of my interests.
ii.Salary and Relocation Benefits is almost same with new company.

2.My wife took internal transfer from US to Bangalore and working(OOPS No.. taking some time-off) with same company.

Will keep posted on other topics........

Personal Front
Mine is kind of different story or may be another r2i story which has happened before. I left US first along with my son and greatwife (will explain later why she is great) stayed back in US to sell off remaining final household items besides she would not be released from her project anyway. Before I leave US sold my good looking Prius at a good price thanks to craigslist (must admit that it took a while for good offer (2 months) otherwise it would have sold on the same day when AD is posted.) and just bought mattress in good condition (since we are not sure of US stay we have kept the original mattress wrap and returned it to Costco.), cleaned up other stuffs to the possible extent.

My wife did a terrific job in selling all of the remaining stuffs through craigslist like baby crib, fans, lights, and another mattress in astonishingly good price. Triple Pat on her back (Not for selling good price alone handling the stress of selling stuff) also sold remaining Corolla (close to my wife) which we bought new when we landed in USway back 2006.

Meanwhile I was here in India took some time to join and focused on settling down in India instead. The biggest challenge was to take care of my son and credit should go to my mom as well. Without family support it’s noteasy to manage kids.

Relocation Part

Though we had accumulated lots of stuffs out of 6 yrs. we have always moved onwith new items now and then and in the end not much items left to clear but still quite a work in selling the stuffs through craigslist, some to friends and some to trash.

Our companies paid our fare, apartment lease breakage so that’s big relief for us.

Job Search

Tried the following options
1.Job Portal (Naukri/Monster) - Received good responses from Monster compared to Naukri and had one offer.
2.LinkedIn - Through known network in desired company - Took the job offer through this channel
3.Internal Company Transfer - Offer were there (not officially though) but did not like the position.

Chennai Vs Bangalore

Initially considering Chennai as preferred destination due to family, relatives but latest zeroed on Bangalore becuase of these reasons 1. job offer was in Bangalore 2. 24hrs water 3. Electricity 4.Personally felt it would be better to stay put in Bangalore due to weather and keeping distant from relatives to maintain the relationship.

Though we can overcome the point 2 and 3 in chennai.

Bhavan, have you considered how you will overcome the xenophobic elements in Bangalore. Remember, all Tamil channels will be cut whenever tempers flare between KA and TN.

That I think is a good decision. We were in similar dilemma and eventually returned to Bangalore last year. Some distance with relatives will definitely help! The weather is great... no need of ACs at home and pay hefty 5k/6k electricity bill per month.

Bangalore streets are a little filthier and polluted with heavy vehicular traffic - do yourself a favor and stay closer to work & kid's school, that'll help a ton
