Dish washer

I would like to know about the best dishwashers avilable in India..suiting indian vessels
and water..
I have searched in Internet...saw the demos of IFB...but if anyone of the R2I members have bought it and are using it...I thought, would give me the best feedback.

I also want to know, how practically we would be using it.

Dishwasher can only wash Ceramic and non-stick and small steel vessels, it cannot be used to wash bigger and heavier Indian Copper and Bronze vessels. So, it can only be used for minor usage and not in the Indian style.

Dish washer is a great appliance to have in India. Yes, if you managed to burn the rice in the cooker, it won't come out clean and food particles need to be removed as much as you can (there is a filter to collect these particles), however, it takes off grease far better than any maid in India. Most dishwashers are 550 mm tall so you will need your kitchen platform high enough to accomodate it. My friends just got one part of their platform raised tall enough to accomodate the dishwasher.

If you can afford the dishwasher, and have a place to keep it, its a must-buy appliance. Not only because it makes you less dependent on the maid (if you prefer, that is) but also you get to eat from really clean and germ free utensils.

I do not know how it works with heavy copper and bronze utensils...I don't remember when I used them last. If you exclude copper bottom stainless steel, why anybody want to use copper plates for eating/cooking?

what about the electricity consumption and how much water does it need. do the solar panels help?

Dishwasher costs INR 30,000. Its monthly supply of detergent costs Rs 300+. Do you really care for electricity costs? I would say Rs5 to Rs 6 per day...almost 1/4th of the cost of maid...as long as there are no additional features that come with the maid.

Are you sure about this statistic? Just 5-6 rs per day?
Also, I remember reading a thread( year or two before) where members sharing that it's hard to find good quality detergent and also costs more.
Things must have changed now.

Detergent do cost a bomb and you have to order it thru their call center....Moreover, this detergent is not available in all shops so if you do want to buy it right away, you will have to go to those big shops like 'Big Bazaar' and pay even more.

Electricity cost is as per the salesman...and so unreliable. Nowadays, due to 5 star energy ratings, consumption has come down.

However, I would say electricity cost would be the least of expenses as compared to the cost of the machine and detergent.

So many complexities with DishWasher...would it not be much easier if each one clean their own utensils? Nice bicep/tricep workout, no need of gym for upper body.

Dishwashers of the type in India, I seriously doubt will consume more than 1 to 1.5 units max of electricity per complete cycle.

What about heating water costs, to be used in dishwasher? Anyhow I get the point.
