SBI to ICICI money transfer failed and my money disappeared

Post by rajanten »

Last week I tried to transfer funds from my SBI NRE to ICICI NRE a/c, as I was having some problem with SBI online banking, I called my local SBI bank (India) and asked the manager to transfer manually. It seems he forgot to mention NRE type, so ICICI got confused and rejected the transaction. The very next day the funds should have got credited into my SBI a/c, but it didn't until now.

I have made multiple calls to my bank manager and sbi NRI services but nobody is giving me proper response, they were not able to tell me where the money is struck and how long it is going to reach my account. Where else can I expect such a lousy service..... :(
Other than calling these jokers (SBI) daily I don't know what else I can do to get my money back.

Did anyone here experienced this situation? Please guide me how to proceed further, your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

I am afraid there is no other solution except keep contacting the Branch Manager. I had faced similar issue recently and couple of times wrote to Branch Manager. Result is no action.

I looked for other avenues and generated the online ticket to resolve the concern. Nothing happened. I then wrote to Zonal General Manager and it also did not work.

Finall I got the message that this issue need to be sorted out at the branch only. Had to speak to Manager for couple of times and finally they did it. While SBI has transformed a lot in recent times, it frustrates the customers in the event of any complications.

I had a similar problem few years back, calling the SBI NRI services didn't help for several months, after that I found some complaint email address of sbi money transfer website itself, and emailing there resolved the issue in a weeks time. So if you haven't already put a query through their website, my guess is that they have proper escalation paths for those, and thus people are more responsive that on phone where there are no records.

After making multiple phone calls finally I received the amount in my a/c after two weeks of struggle, I have to thank god here. Lessons learned, one should have lot of patience and luck to deal with them and don't trust even the bank manager.

I don't think SBI has a centralized system where they can answer all customer queries. The NRI service is utter waste, they will ask almost our complete autobiography, questions like our account number/current address/phone/passport/DOB/maiden name etc.. and at the end they will say we are very sorry for what happened to you, we will open a tracking ticket and get back to you within 48 hours, and 48 hrs never arrives for them. And in between while we are talking to them explaining our sad story, the call suddenly drops, we have to call them again, and if lucky someone will pick the phone at the other end and we have to start all over again with our ramayan story praying the call won't drop again this time.

They gave me chennai customer service number to contact, I don't know how many lines they have, I always hear the lines are busy. Luckily few times I land in that world's worst IVR system which don't understand anything and just drops the call, no message like press 0 or something to reach a human(customer rep), I never get chance to hold someone at the other end. Then I realized the only way to resolve the issue is call my bank manager every day, luckily I got his mobile number.

Almost every day I use to call them and speak to different people in that branch, the standard answer I will get was, don't worry sir your money will go nowhere, we will look into it. The manager was telling me that he transferred the money based on my words,he says the money should come back into my a/c automatically if rejected by ICICI, he was asking me what to do if the money doesn't come. I don't know how he become a branch manager. If I send my father to investigate/inquire about it, he was asked to come back in the evening as they are very busy in the morning. Sad how our government function even today when india is shinning at the other end.

rajanten,

Sorry to hear about what happened to you, such stuff is very stressful. One thing that has helped us in the past is to indicate to the bank manager that you will complain to RBI about this. In most cases, that is enough 'incentive' for them.

In one instance, we have actually complained to RBI, and the matter did get resolved through them as the bank manager was not co-operative.

Bottom line: Do not expect any problems with indian banks to be resolved quickly. It is a very different world from US.

Never make online transactions in India
I have three transactions -- movie tickets, railway tickets (somewhat ok got refund but followup required) and any transactions online get session expired and you are done for next couple of months to get resolved..

Very very frustrating...

I have had enough of ICICi bank with transferring money to my FIL's Corporation bank
the last time it was in 2008 could not get things right always some snugs.
To make a long story short, I switched to SBI last two years, initially it has some problems with transferring, it is frustrating to deal with them. The bottom line is keep bugging them with emails or phone calls. Something will get into their heads.
