After my recent trip to USA I suddenly felt how horrible the traffic and infra situation is in Bangalore.
The major metro's in India is in complete mess. Our town/city planners are very incompetent (I also suspect massive corruption and nexus with real estate mafia) and
overall quality of life in metro's is only going to get worst with time.
If quality of life is the primary determinant then my personal opinion is don't even think of r2i. Also anyone with allergy problems or persons who are sensitive to pollution SHOULD NOT even think of r2i.
In terms of pollution Indian metro's are among the worst in the world.
r2i will be successful only for the following reasons:
1. Family tie up is high priority for the person.
2. Want to take it easy. Have sufficient savings and retire/semi retire in India. Things are still very cheap (one has to be smart and buy things from the right place).

Come on!!!!! Why do people think of India as only 5 or 6 metro cities and nothing else. If you have even decent savings, there are many tier-2, tier-3 cities in your own home-state, where RE is affordable, traffic is manageable, pollution is minimal, schools are okay and hospitals are decent. They may not have any high-paying jobs and won't have many entertainment avenues, but the trade-off is worth it if you have decent savings. If you live in your own home-state, language and culture won'y be any barrier to enjoy life.

The infrastructure is improving rapidly in India. You own Bangalore metro is about to open, there is a new airport and I have read about many elevated roads that either opened recently or are coming up. It will take 10 to 15 years but rapid progress is being made.
