USC and shifting and working in India while OCI is being processed.

Post by supermom »

A friend of mine recently got his US citizenship and has begun the process of OCI. However, he needs to immediately shift to India (his mom passed away and needs to come home to take care of his dad) along with his family. He is main source of income for his family and hence he needs to start working immediately after shifting to India. However, with the OCI processing being a 1 year's time, what are his choices? How can he shift to India and start working here without affecting his OCI process? What are his choices? Please let me know. Thanks!

Where does it say OCI process takes 1 year,

Usually its a matter of 4-5 weeks....

Hes got 2 choices....

1)Either apply for visit visa and come to india intially, meanwhile apply for OCI in US and then leave to india

Be there in india immediately with visit visa and then move back to US, colllect the OCI and windup everything and move back.

2)Move to india on tourist visa, and i m sure one can apply for OCI from being in india.

It looks like OCI processing in Houston takes really long time. At least that is what he has heard from others.

Anybody has applied for OCI in India? How is the procedure here and how long does it take? Please help.

I have applied OCS in India and it took 3 months and I got in January.
At Hyderabad, OCI processing is the most easiest process..

So applying in INdia is easier.

rmandy,

Thanks for the info.
Did you go to MHA office in New Delhi, to pickup your OCI card/U visa ?
or you picked them up from FRRO Hyderabad office, the place you applied ?
Appreciate your response.

thanks and regards
