R2I without Job - Has anyone done it before?

Post by r2ithought »

We had R2I plan in our mind even since we stepped in this country and by this time we have been able to achieve most of what we had in our R2I list. We do have a fully paid apartment in the city and moderate bank balance.

Now when it's time to go, I have don't have a job offer in my hand. There is no financial issue in sustaining without job for 6months or so. Friends/Families are saying don't come without a job offer in hand. If I wait for a job in hand that delays our plan for R2I and mainly the school session for kids.

Ever landed in this circumstance before? What do you think guys?

Opt 1. Go and try luck in India
Opt 2. Settle Wife & Kids in India and let Kids start their school and I work here and wait for opportunity to come in my home town.

Thanks in advance..

Option 1 and 2 are inter-related. I would mix both opt 1 and 2.

R2I without Job - Has anyone done it before?

few folks have done this. One of my friends also did this back in november 2010. He wanted to take a sabattical as well as settle things at home for 6 months and then get ready for the job scene.

Option 1: You do have less bargaining power but more companies to choose from. Some companies do want to see the candidate in person before offering a job.
Option 2: You can bargain more and join at a better salary level but most of the times you can only apply to companies that have their bases in US. Basically, the indian consulting shops like wipro, infosys, HCL, satyam wouldn't hire you unless you are physically present. So your options would be the multi-national companies.

R2I without Job - Has anyone done it before?

I am in the same boat. I have approached my current employer about seeking a position in India. They are still working on an offer - it has been months now. I am thinking of heading back to India mid april, settle family in India and come back to wind things up and look for options if my current employer does not come through.

I am in the same boat. WE plan to R2I in June and am trying to get a job in Bangalore. I need to reach out for my contacts. A recruiter is (probably) circulating my resume to some select firms in Bangalore. Not sure how it will go, but I will not go back without a job. Worst case will have the wife and kids settled in BLR and will move when I get an offer.

Hello - Please refer http://www.r2iclubforums.com/forums/showthread.php/23515-Financial-transfer

I am in a pretty difficult situation of staying back in India without a job. Brokenarrow - Can you please Private message me with the recruiter information if you don't mind? I really need to find something quick and can't break ground here.

I did r2i to India last November without a job and have just started looking out for one.

All this time, I've just been handling setting up of apartment, getting Ration Card, PAN card, opening Bank Accounts, Gas connection, Internet connection etc. Each of these need multiple visits and numerous phone calls and would take away chunk of your time initially.

I did pose a query regarding the gap in the Resume for 2-4 months and member vapasi had answered that r2i is an acceptable reason for such gaps (he was basing the information on couple of cases he had seen).

If the kids are under 6/7, you can always try a school on a temporary basis for a year and then shift them the next year once the kids are settled.

I did it in April 2010. Landed here without a job and found a job in 3 weeks time. Dont know if it was pure luck. I am doing the same again. I am moving to Delhi from Ahmedabad this week without a job and hoping to find a job in Delhi. Sitting in Ahmedabad, it was difficult to get things moving.
