PIO Applications with Travisa in NY

Post by Avinashk »

Does anyone know folks at Travisa NY. I applied for PIO cards for myself & family on 3/15 so I can take a trip to India my 4/21 (recent US citizen, just got my US passports)

I applied for Indian passport renunciation along with PIO card application. Received email today that my son's PIO application has been put on hold because they dont have a renunciation certificate. I've tried reaching them - voicemail, email - no response yet.

Given the urgency of our PIO cards & how long they have taken to open the application since I sent it to them - I need to expedite the application getting to Indian consulate next so they can get a PIO card created & sent back to Travisa so they ship it to us.

Need help - any ideas/ people we may know at Travisa or Indian consulate because I have tickets reserved for 21st April to travel to India for school admissions for my kids.

Thank you,
Avinash.

At NY consulate they can give renunciation certificate the same day - there might be a few hours of waiting around though. Better to get there early. Once you have that you can walk over to Travisa the same day and resubmit the PIO application (assuming Travisa is the one who processes PIO these days).
Consulate will never pick up phone or return calls. From what I recall Travisa does return calls on occasion.

Thank you, I have applied for PIO & Renunciation - both forms & money orders are with Travisa at this point in time so I'd have to go to Travisa to get them to release the forms & my paperwork (including both US & India original passports) to the Indian consulate.

Any ideas on how to get through with Travisa remotely because I'm not close to NY & cant get there till Friday at the earliest.

Thank you,
Avinash.

That's what happened to me. When you go to Travisa on Friday just tell the girl at the front steps your situation and she'll let you up and they will give your docs back.
When I wanted to talk to travisa I left them a voicemail and somebody called back with a couple of hours.

Are the consulates still issuing PIO cards? Few months back Indian Govt. had said they will merge the PIO card with OCI and PIo cards will be done away with.
Just wondering anythinghas happened in this regard...

Given that it takes atleast 6 - 8 weeks to get PIO/OCI, is it better to get Student visa and then apply for PIO /OCI in India.
Is that a good idea ? I would like to know which will be best so my kids passport are not held at Travisa as they will lose 2 months of school.

Starting June 15th, one doesn't have to send the passports with OCI applications. Can wait until OCI is approved.
