You are very lucky to be in China.

If I were you I would stay put in China and raise my kids there. China will rule the world
in 20 years and if your kids learn Mandarin well they will do very well in life.

If I were you I would raise my kids in China, develop more expertise in Mandarin, network more
and then make my fortune as a liason in manufacturing industry between India and China.

I am learning Mandarin and am also making sure all kids in our family learn Mandarin. I have decided to
send our next generation to Beijing or Shanghai when they grow up.

China might do well but stating that it will rule the world is hyperbole. It has it's own problems (social unrest, provincial dept level, dependence on western economies for manufacturing demand and corruption to list some of them).

Now as per op, manufacturing in INDIA is stuttering at best. For home appliance segment it would be advisable to switch to service or franchise arena. There is hardly any innovation originating in INDIA to drive this segment.

cheers

Let us keep some hope that our next generation do not need to immigrate to some other country to have a better life.

Not sure why one would be lucky to be in China -
China "might" become the number one economy of the world, that does not mean it will rule the world. USA is 'already' number one economy in the world and people are piling up to do R2I. Reasons for R2Iing are nothing to do with the pecking order of world economies. Also a country doing well economically does not necessarily mean everyone emigrating to that country would do great (especially doubt this when emigrating to countries with less than stellar record in fundamental rights). Having said that, agree that its a great advantage if we/kids learn a foreign language especially a language like mandarin (spoken by huge population and its not that easy to learn) which should only help in the long run.

Regarding original question about opportunities in mfg sector, agree with other posts that prospects may not be that great. Maybe best to explore using your skills/experience in service sector (the general principles of project/quality management may not be that different). Good luck.

Hi katobhuti : you are right that china is doing good and one has enough reason to stay in china. In my case another main reason is that my wife is also Chinese :) ( i should have mentioned this earlier ) . however i strongly beelive that india will be as good as china in 20 yrs.
China has lot of good points but at the same time have some cons as well, as far as kids education is concerend i still beleive India is better then China.

I agree with you soxfan , the whole idea behind coming back is to get close to my roots. Fortunately i have full support from my better half. Learning chinese has come in quite handy and will defintely be advantageous in future. Love it or hate it, china has become part of daily life and almost all country / company has something produced in china.
I knew that mfg sector in india is not mature and I guess with my background it would be better if I start some small mfg unit of my own. I beleive india has lot of potential to grow in mfg sector, its just that government needs to look into it.

cheers !

China may go onto become number one economy but you are right when you said that every country has its own problems. for instance China has a lot these days.

India really needs to put some efforts in mfg secotr or else will miss the oppertunity. China is getting expensive and companies ( even chinese) are moving out of here however most of them are pting for countries like vietnam , philipines..

Lucky, oh yeah.

You have some nice things to say about China - so you are OK.

On the other hand, if you said anything bad about China while living in China - your whereabouts mayn't be known.

You still think China is the best place to live?!
