We all did it initially in US /UK (outside India).
If we likes something to buy a quick mental jab to convert to Rupees:).

After how many years abroad did you stop doing it. I "think" it took me about 7 years before the price of that shiny item was not converted Ruppees by my brain.

Just for fun I would like to see members experience.

I now convert Rs. to dollars. I can be in a jewelry or apparel shop in India, buying stuff for myself or kids, and about to pay, when I convert to $$ and balk at the total. Get couple of items removed...

I voted 5 yrs in the poll.

I think when people come to the US on H1 etc with the intention of going back, the never stop converting for however long they stay here: 3 months, 6 months, 1 year+ they are in the US. Once they apply for green card or start thinking about staying back in the US, they stop converting to rupees. When you R2I you will do the same reverse conversion until you have intentions to R2A.

Another way to look at it is if you continue to send money to India or if you have a need to buy a real estate or something in India and therefore have to cut your budget in the US, then you continue to keep track of exchange rates. At this point, I do not even know what the exchange rate is, it has been 6+ months since I last checked. Now that reminds me to check.

(After 5 min)

Here it is: http://www.google.com/finance?q=USDINR&hl=en 1 USD = ~Rs 46? Time to transfer some money to India :)

Good point - we need to have another quiz: "For all those who have R2Ied, how many years before you stopped converting to USD (or other foreign currency)?"
As MV said, I always tend to convert to USD when I am buying things in India.

Looks like we are in old-age:wink

The actual thread/polling should be "After R2I, how many years does it take to stop converting INR into USD ?"
