I am a native Indian - Canadian Citizen, leaving overseas for around 15+ years. I have a verbal offer confirmation with the biggest IT giant for 36.5 lacs, (32 base + rest variable). Would greatly appreciate if someone can comment on the salary in corelation to HYbd. I want 35 lacs as my base plus variable. Do you think it,s worth Negotiating or is it a Good/Bad Excellent offer.

I think its too low. You should negotiate and ask for around 50 lacs. But then when do you plan on reaching India if you have been leaving overseas for 15 years?

Really ... Really.....
wow I have been out of INDIA far too long.
I guess it depends on demand and supply of the skillsets.
Good for OP though. Best of luck for R2I.
Cheers

It is a very good offer and should proffer a very comfortable living anywhere in India.
As for being applicable to a person, it depends on what the person is bringing to the table.

Hi all
It is good to see a bit of sarcasm from time to time whether online or in talking face to face. It is even more amusing when someone does not understand the subtleness of the sarcasm and innocently takes it at face value.
OP
IMHO you should grab the offer with both hands. On a separate note [not that is matters] if I were you I would have taken the next available plane to India. But I am not you and you are you and I am I so things stand as they are.
Anyway do keep you posted on whether you accept this and whether you do R2I.
Regards
Venkat

Get it on the paper before they change their mind. What are you waiting on ?

it is very low ball offer. The offer does not take into account the supreme sacrifice you are making by leaving US/Canada and moving to india

Extra 3 lakh comes out to be about 10% of the offered salary. In US/Canada, where base-salary growth is quite limited, this would have been a substantial percentage, worth negotiating upwards. However, in Indian context, where salaries rise quite often, and by substantial percentages, it may not be worth the headache and risk of being declined. You may anyways reach 35 Lakh base by end of next year!
Also it depends on how much negotiation you have already done. If none at all, you may want to discuss RSU/Stock-Option portion, where there usually is more flexibility. Or you may ask for a joining bonus.
Otherwise in pure monetary terms, and with perspective of a middle-class person, this is a solid offer.
