The salary range does not depend on NRI status. It depends on your skills/education/experience compared with your peers in India.

You may be looking at 1-1.5 times of your experience
so far 15 years can be anywhere from 15-22.5 loans PA
as r2inoida said other factors do count

but everything is overwritten with good luck and good connections

Salary depends on the experience & employer. There are people who are earning around 40L for 15 year experience. But they have good academic qualifications, and are in leadership role. For IC roles, companies like Microsoft & Amazon pay around 35L. But again these are top paying employers in India. Most of the IC roles will be confined to salaries between 20 & 30L. But I do not think salaries are as low as 15L unless one is moving to tier 3 city, and posses a very common kill set.

I am quoting CTC given by most companies, which includes variable pay. I think there are few financial companies that do not include year-end bonus in CTC. But a candidate should find out the range of such bonus before joining so as to weigh the offer.

in IT consulting companies, isn't the variable pay the same as the bonus which is linked to how the company does and also the individual performance? typically they just include it and mention that they have been paying 100% for the past x years.

pantrent - you should look at the threads in the forum dedicated to discussing salaries. Depending on your profile and the company you are applying to I am sure you will be able to get an approximate range.
