Hi,
Iam an Indian citizen and will be travelling to San Antonio soon.Though I was in NJ for about 5 yrs (currently in India), I don't have any idea about San Antonio .Can you pls provide the following details.
(1) what will be the % federal / state (I believe there is no state tax in TX) and other taxes for this city.I checked in the sites, but each site gives different figures and I could not able to come to a conclusion on the take-home salary part.
(2) My office is in Bulverde Road. Can anyone pls suggest a location (apt to stay) near to that area and also to a public school (My son will be studying 1st grade there). It will be helpful, if anyone could suggest a location, which is nearer to Bulverde Road /a public school / hospital (for any emergency)/and Indian grocery shop?.
(3) What will be the rent of single/double bedroom apt (approx) in those areas?.
(4) Do we have public transport there?.Is it possible to manage without a car during our initial days of our stay there?
(5) Can anyone pls let me know cost of living there?. (Though it depends on indidual, I would like to have a rough estimate for apt, groceries etc.,).
Thanks in advance.

I am not from San Antonio but TX
There are many online salary and tax calculator you can use.
There is no state tax in TX and below is the rate for the federal tax:
Married filling jointly:
Taxable income up to 69,000 15 %
69,000 to 139,350 25 %
139,350 to 212300 28 %
San Antonio is big city and a tourist destination. There are public transport and lots of cabs available.
You can google for the apartment and school.

Thanks for the details Chakraan.
One more doubt. I checked with the sitehttp://www.suburbancomputer.com/tips_calculator.php
It says for annual salary of 70,000 (married, bi-monthly salary) total federal taxes comes to 16.16%.
And also can anyone from San Antonio let me know the rent (approx) of an Apt (for a family with one 6 yr old kid)
Can you pls clarify ?. Thanks

The calculation is correct.
if your salary is 70k but taxable income will be less than that, may be 50k after standard deductions, exemptions and child tax credit.
You are in 15% tax bracket.

OP
You need to check on internet with the ZIP code info to search for apartments and which are near to your place of work. That would be good starting point. IT will show you apartments in that area and their approximate rents. You can also check craigslist for SAN ANTONIO AREA for rent estimates.
it will be cheaper than NJ for sure.
