It is one week since we landed.Kind of settled home front. We are renting a place for now till our house finshes.Kids started school on the third day of landing.I was extremely nervous on the first day of school.Daughter who is starting 6th grade was also very worried, anxious and was having panic.I tried to calm her down, gave my cell phone and asked to call anytime and promised her to pick her up if she feels uncomfortable.Son on other hand entering 3rd grade was so excited to go since we had to drop them in an auto .He just wanted to have the autorickshaw experience.Anyway dropped them to school ran round and got some stuff done half mindedly as I couldn't stop thinking what they were doing in school.Went 30minutes early to school to pick them up.Coulnt wait for the gate to open.Ran inside and saw my daughter coming out with a big smile on her face. When I saw her reaction,my heart was leaping and couldn't control my emotions. My eyes started tearing up thinking, how I underestimated my kids ability to adjust.exact same reaction with my son.
I know half my work is done.Rest in progress.

Kids will adjust easily and will have fun than us adults so don't worry. It is possible that viral infection could happen and may take some time to fight it. Once you are through it you will truly adjust. I read that it was just a week so thought to make you prepared. Don't worry life is good and kids remind us :-)

Hitting 2 week mark. Today I dropped my daughter to a dance school. One of my friends daughter from US was staying overnight with us and wanted to see My daughters dance class. So she also accompanied. We had to wait for about 10-15 minutes for the teacher to show up.As a typical 10 year old, my friends kid was wearing a long shorts and one shoulder full sleeve and other spaghetti strap sleeved t shirt. While I was about to leave one of the grandmas who cam to drop he granddaughter to the class, commented telling me to make sure she put on something with little more sleeves so that her undershirt don't show. I was not at all expecting this and didn't know how to respond.Thankfully the kid didn't understand. This is a 10 year old skinny kid. What is wrong with the people.Next time I will tell them to mind their own business.I understand the line between modest and indecent clothing. The is a small girl wearing a top that has a spaghetti sharp on one shoulder and covered sleeve on other shoulder.Even with that the kid was sweating.

You'll be getting a lot of unsolicted advice from everyone in India and they all think they are always right. It's better to ignore these people and move on unless their interfering is too much. Mine is also an unsolicited advice but I'm always right! :wink
BTW, please consider writing a diary. Happy R2I!!!

Much unsolicited advice and comment happens. However, this one may be coming from all the years of experience in India on the matter of safety of girls and women. Now that we have Satyamev-Jayate, NDTV and so much news on vernacular TV as well, people may come to believe the whole nation to be filled with molesters and perverts. Best move would be to tolerate comments, ponder-why and move on.

Since it was an ammachi that said it I would take it as one of the pluses of living in Kerala ;-)

Agree. But I was left speechless, which is totally out of character for me, since I was not at all expecting this kind of reaction for showing one shoulder with a thin strap.I see lots of kids and elders wearing Capris, t shirts ,jeans, sleeveless tops and all everywhere

Probably had more to do with the dance class and that etiquette more than anything else.
On another note since you been in Kochi for a while now, what are your impressions about it as an r2i city for IT people ? We were there for a day last month and though we were in Thripunithara mostly only drove into Kochi to do some shopping on the way to the airport (on a sunday mind you). We liked what we little we saw.
