Sometimes we get something which is very useful and we wonder why we didn't know that earlier. If you have got such a thing in the recent years, please share it with other members here. It could be anything from a pencil to private jet that you got or bought!

(Member vyahruti's post about how a knife changed the way she cooked prompted to me to create this thread!).

I hate video games. And I thought XBOX Kinect is one such thing and never wanted to buy it. But just to keep the kids active during winter, I got the Kinect. Believe it or not, it has kept me active as well. Kinect sports one and two haven't bored me even after a year. I do go for a jog or walk but I'm not able to do it regularly particularly when the day is hectic and I don't feel like going outside. So this helps a lot.

I always research the Product before I buy through Consumerreports.org along with the 'User Reviews' from Amazon.com. I am a Value Customer where I will buy the Products top rated by Consumer Reports with 4/5 star rated through Amazon. I will first identify my need, do not worry much about price but give importance to Quality and Utilization, pay upfront more even if it's a bit expensive but will use it for long time duration of more than 10 years with easy upgrade features which works out cheaper in long run. Here are a few Products which I will cherish for long time.

(1) Hero Pen (Brown Color) - My Father gave me as a present in Xth Standard and I used it till I completed my MBA for more than 10 years. Still, I have the pen with me which works very well. Alas, I shifted to Ball Point Pen but am planning to use it again as I am in India now:thup:

(2) Toyota Corolla/Sienna Van - Bought 11 years back, Still Going Strong with more than 125K miles, haven't repaired even once except change oil every 5000 miles, Outstanding Car/Van which is our family now. As I R2I in 2011, I sold my Toyota Corolla but still has kept the Sienna Van which I use it whenever I go to US.

(3) Bose Speakers - Needless to say more but this is a lifetime investment where the speakers rock!!

(4) OZERI GREEN EARTH CERAMIC NON-STICK PAN bought in Amazon and have been using for 6 months. Outstanding pan which cooks evenly, cooks very fast and cleaning is just very easy. Great Value. Please review at:

The above pan comes in 3 sizes such as 8", 10" and 12" under two combinations such as Smooth Finish and Textured. I tried both and both works fine. The price is cheap if we buy through Amazon.

There is a new 12" WOK which I ordered today :-)

(5) iPhone - Beautiful phone which works fine after 2 and half years both in US and India.

(6) MacBook - Bought in 2007 and have been using for more than 5 years with not even one time crashed. Have installed Windows Professional and can breeze through both operating systems.

I will post more later....

We got a customized van about a month and a half back. It has a fold-out ramp entry at the trunk door. It will be an understatement if I say it has completely changed our life. Going out with the family has become so easy.

I will try to post some pictures of the ramp and conversion later this week.

I insisted on Vitamix or Blendtec, but my wife went for a cheaper option in Ninja. I am not satisfied with Ninja.

So, what is a useless item that I got recently? It would be the Ninja blender!

Now she is after my case for eyeing Canon 5D Mark II. I shall prevail! :)

Wifey wants to watch YouTube on the TV directly but one of my 2008 model LCD is not wi-fi enabled. So wanted to buy a "Smart" TV which cost $999.

Went to Bestbuy and the sales man told us that if your requirment is only internet, then buy this small piece of equipment which will trun every TV in to smart TV for only $49! Bought that immediately and wifey is enjoying YouTube, Netflix etc.

It is Netgear NeoTV Streaming Player. it also comes with YuppTV apps.

I have subscribed for Bengali Silver package with Yupp and watching Mamata di's drama live now.
