r2i purely from value investment perspective

Post by pqr2012 »

This is the best time for value investors in India. It is God
send oppurtunity. Very rarely such great oppurtunities come.

If you r2i now and if you can pick the right stocks and invest
1cr in Indian equity market that will gorw to about 25 cr + in
25 yrs.

If you are a passive investor and invest 1cr in good Indian MFs it will
grow to about 20 cr + in 25 yrs.

No country in North Am and Euro zone will give even one third
of that return.

For people who want to grow there wealth India is the place to be for sure.

What about the rupee depreciation over 25 years. Do you think in dollar terms Indian market will outperform Nasdaq. I am not so sure.

Indian small/midcaps are volatile and with suspect corporate goverance (Eg. kitex), investors will not be inclined to hold for long term.

What if 25 cr after 25 years is worth less than 1 crore of today's money?

technyt,

what if I try to cross road and die tomorrow? There is risk in everything.

Anyway I find it very irritating to reply to your post. In the future I will
request you never to respond to my post/thread ever again. Neither will I write anything on your posts. Can we have a gentleman's agreement on that.

Goodbye and good luck to you for the rest of my life. Hope I am not
unfortunate enough to come in contact with you. Peace.

For value investor, business and its valuation is important not country. Indian stock market is full of punters and dishonest management. Every TDH talks like he is WB, and that?s not the good sign. Give me a few name of co I really want to see what value is there. ( I am not looking for any stock tips- I am very much familiar with Indian co)

Also are you factoring inflation or not? If you put inflation in equation you will come close to US return and we are not even talking about strong currency vs weak currency & Margin of safety for your money in Indian co vs US co.
No doubt India will grow, its like when your Aircraft takes off, its nose pitch will be on higher angle compare to Aircraft is climbing from 30k ft to 39k ft.

If you are in US, small portion should definitely invest in India, even you R2i your net savings should be in USD only. I would avoid transferring $$ in weak currency to get illusive return.

mntwins,

I never tell specific companies as picking stock totally
depends on risk profile of a person and investment horizon.

Anyway here are the guidelines for stock selection I adhere to:

1. Look for very strong companies with mouth watering valuation
(P/E<10,P/E*P/BV<12, ROCE atleast 35% more than sector/vertical avg). Make sure of
very strong balance sheet and strong cash flow. You can pick and choose many
from BSE 500(dont venture out of BSE 500 it is risky).

2. Be very very careful with debt (Debt/Equity < 0.4 at max).

3> Try div yld > 5% (when economy recovers you will get div yld
alone > 10-12% hopefully).

Good picks are there in many verticals(select infra, realty, packaging,
piping, paper, tea, plantation, education, select financials etc).

Valuation is extremely attractive now(in many cases better than 2008-9
factoring in time correction). If you choose right companies in 3-4 yrs your
investment will double in all likelihood.

I can say I am getting some of the best deals (particularly on dividend
front) and simply cant believe it.

At this juncture play very safe dont take too much risk still you will get
long term 15% + CAGR such is the beauty of Indian market.

If you are not sure or dont have enough time to research on stock picking
play safe and invest in good MFs. The safest option is
go for 6 month SIP from now.

The market will be volatile for next 6mo-1yr. Dont panic and sell of if it
goes down. In 10 -20yrs if you just hold and dont do anything silly you will
make a lot of money.

Good luck and all the best.

just...,
I have got > 85% of my net worth investing in the market in the course of
my life.

I really know very very little. But what I am today is thanks to
very very very little I know.

It is the screener which is the life blood of an investor. You
have to build your own engine with investment criteria.

Massage bse/nse historical data feed. That is most accurate data.
I wont trust anything else.

Goodluck.
