OCI application In india

Post by mom1967 »

Hi

My mom applied for OCI in June .She went from USA on entry visa & she wants to stay in India for a total of 7 months to complete her medical treatment.
she sent the application to Delhi( she lives in kerala ).She never got an email or SMS regarding the receipt of application. Her online status recently changed as
registration at mission : granted
documents printed ,
documents at MHA :received on Aug 6th
will any one familiar with OCI application procedure in India can help us with next steps?
Do they send any emails or any communication when to send the passport ? or does she need to go in person to pick the OCI card ?
Does anyone know the contact numbers where we can call & ask ?
Thanks in advance

OCI application In india

Hi,

Can share my experience, not sure if that helps you.

I recently applied and received the OCI for my son while in India.

I applied in person at FRRO, Hyderabad; who sends the application to MHA, New Delhi. I regularly checked the online status and when the status showed that the documents are received in FRRO Hyderabad; I had to go there and collect it. At no point of time, I received any email or sms communication.

I believe if you send the application by post, you receive it back by post; but I am not 100% sure. But if you applied through any local FRRO offices, you definitely need to go there to collect it.

Regards.

Hi drpaul,

Sorry for the delay as I was out of station. You probably got the info already. In case you have not: the documents needed are:
1. Applicant's (your daughter) passport with India visa, passport should show the date stamp for the last date of entry to India.
2. FRRO registration docs (only if the last date of entry to India is more than 6 months ago)
3. Parent's passport (with OCI sticker)
4. Parent's OCI booklet
5. Proof of address in Hyderabad.
6. Child's birth certificate.

You need to carry the originals for all the documents along with the photocopies.

Their phone number is 040 2790 1022 - and they are quite helpful over the phone (but getting the line could be tricky).

Hope it helps.
• FRRO provides a checklist but I have also included additional instructions.
 • Take originals of all documents whose copy you will be submitting.
 • You will be submitting 2 applications. So create 2 sets. Only set will include the demand draft.
• 2 copies of Part A and Part B for each applicant. Right thumb impression for female minors and left thumb impression for male minor who cannot sign. US passport size photo to be pasted on each of the 2 Part A forms.
 • Demand draft of 15000 INR for applicant with India visa. Demand draft of 8000 INR if the applicant is minor PIO card holder. Demand draft of 1400 INR if the applicant is adult PIO card holder. The demand draft should be from nationalised bank only. I used State Bank of India. The draft should be payable to 'Pay and Accounts Officer (Secretariat), Ministry of Home Affairs'. The draft is created by the bank in CAPITAL letter so the above does not fit so I had them create draft payable to 'PAY AND ACCOUNTS OFFICER (SECRETARIAT), M H A'. Also it is important to note that when you create the draft it should be payable at New Delhi branch
 • 2 copies of each of the following (each set of the application will consist of one copy of each of the following):
• Copy of foreign passport (photo page, visa page and last date of arrival stamp page). Write on the copy of the passport last date of arrival stamp page that this is the last date of arrival (DD/MM/YYYY).
 • Copy of certificate of mode of acquisition of present citizenship. Copy of birth certificate or naturalization certificate.
 • Copy of valid visa or PIO card with minimum validity of 31 days.
 • Copy of residential permit. Residential permit is not needed for minors. On the residential permit circle the date till which the permit is valid.
 • Evidence of Indian origin. Passport for self. For foreign born children attach the copy of photo page of foreign passport for father and mother. Mark on these copies that this is foreign passport copy of father and foreign passport copy of mother. Also include the copy of first and last page of most recent cancelled Indian passports of father and mother. Mark these copies accordingly.
 • Copy of first and last page of most recent Indian passport. Not applicable for foreign born children.
 • Proof of residence in India. Copy of rental/lease agreement or sale deed. Or Copy of utility bill. If the child's name is not on any of these documents, then in addition to these documents you will have to submit a notarized affidavit on a 10INR stamp paper that the child is staying with you. The format of this affidavit is specific. It is on another computer so I will post it later or email me for the affidavit format.
 • While not on the checklist I also included copy of renunciation certificate and the officer did not take it out. Renunciation certification is not applicable for minors who never had Indian nationality.

Hope this helps. Wife's application approved in 30 days. Mine and Child's application approved in 41 days. Wife's OCI received by HYD FRRO on 44th day.
