R2I to B\'lore from Austin in May 2013..

Hi I have started reading lots of information from this forum and its all really helpful. Having plans of moving from austin to b'lore,if anybody else have the same idea please let me know. Have not started the preparations yet, still thinking a lot about this and talking and discussing..its never ending.

Hey swarniv, We live in Boston and we are also planning to r2i Bangalore during Apr-May 2013. I am a listener to this forum at this time but wanted to start some conversation on relocation, shipping and kids school. It is a mind blogging piece. I have twin kids going to 6th std next year. Any ideas or thoughts to share, feel free to let me know.

Hi JeyPrasan, Have you applied for school yet? If we apply now there is a possibility of us choosing whichever school is good and convenient. We have selected some schools to apply but haven't applied(still in dilemma stage!!) its cat on the wall situation every day. Sometimes its so confusing to take such big decisions.
Here are the schools that we have selected (you would have read and know about these schools already).Mostly its around marathahalli area

VIBGYOR
Greenwood High (read somewhere transportation and food is not that great)
DPS East
Deens Academy
Vagdevi Vilas
Sishu Griha
Gear
Gopalan International
New horizon
Ebenezar
Kumarans
Sherwood High

Ofcourse we like Inventure and TRIO (not that affordable). these schools are really helpful for international kids(you don't have to get the application form and somehow get the Rs.300-1000DD(depends on the school) and somehow attach the transfer certificate and apply in this one month. I don't want to trouble anyone in b'lore and we are not in the situation to go in person. So this r2i is doubtful before even the planing stage.

swarniv, take your time to decide since its really a big decision but on school front you need to do more homework. You have short listed DPS east and Kumarans which are on the two other ends of city. First decide whether you want to stay sat south, east part and then short list the school. For south it make sense to short list Kumarans along with DPS south and not DPS east.

How old are your kids?

Added later: Whatever school you chose, don't even think of relying on them for food. What works best here in India is sending lunch box.

thanks MyRoots i knew about DPS and kumarans( i didn't mention in the thread that it won't work for us!!)..
but i didn't know about lunch(thanks for letting me know)..i heard they can get it there...
My kids wil be going to 7th and 5th.
everyday i sincerely read this forum, stilll cannot decide what to do and don't know what will be the right thing to do. Worried about traffic, power cut, water problem,bribing, relations not working out,b'lore being unaffordable and so many other things. I am not saying i don't like it there or anything like that(want to be prepared and accept whatever hits us). Heard lots of kids cry for going to school and lots of families come back within a year. We don't want to do that.
Being here for more than 10 years we become selfish and want want want this and that without any hard work..

@swarniv - Thanks for sharing some school information and I sure can understand your dilema on moving to India. My only concern is that of my kids education in India. They are doing good in the US syllabi but not sure how they perform in Indian syllabi, esp language. As they are getting into 6th, I am little worried.
Otherwise my whole family is very excited to relocate back to India including my kids. We will be moving to the south part of Bglr on the Kanakapura Mn Rd section. So looking for Gnana Sweekar and Kumarans for now. Not sure about other schools in that part. DPS is also one option but does not have French as the language...
Gnana sweekar has started to issue application form for next year but not the other schools. Still planning.... need to start executing it :)

Depends on where you are going to stay. If you have daughters, I would recommend Sophias. Great school. There are a few friends of mine who R2I and their kids are thoroughly enjoying the school. You need to be staying within 2 to 3 miles radius from the school to apply. They are particular about this, as they don't want the kids to spend too much time on commute. Given Bangalore traffic, it makes sense.
