What are the pros/cons of an early R2I i.e. after 4-5 years in US ?
I am talking about a single male coming from a middle class Indian family.
I want to get an opinion from the forum as most of the folks on this forum who post about r2i seem to r2i atleast after 10 years of living in US.

How long is long enough is based on individual expectations:e. You have to do your balance sheet of pro's versus cons. Lifestyle and Cashflow top the list for most people in comparing living in India versus elsewhere.
That said, it is a lot easier to R2I (early, just-right or late) if the decision is for a single person. As you might have noticed, quite a lot of posts have contortions and adjustments a family has to make, becoz.... more than one person was involved in the move.

You posted previously that you R2I'd completely at random in April, 2012. Then in July you started asking about R2A and now you are asking about R2I again.
I think at this stage in your life when you are single and only 27 years old, you should stop worrying about R2I vs R2A.
At this stage, no matter where they are, most young people only worry about 2 things: naukri (job) and chhokri (girl).
May be I am wrong but I think in your case it is the latter i.e. what you need more is advice on a girlfriend or a wife or a social life.
It is a common problem with people so we can talk about that if you like. :))

I am trying to still process it though... Most people here talk about 40L packages when they move back. I am not getting anything close to that. As far as chhokri is concerned, I am not that bothered yet. That part can wait a little :)
Mine is a bigger bet as I gave up my H1-B. So I want to understand the actual pros/cons of this move. As we all know, going back now would be tough(though seeing the current ridiculous hiring wave in the valley, I am confident I can find someone to sponsor my h1-b again).

I think you contradicting yourself. On one hand, you say most people who R2I are with 10+ years in US, and you R2I in 4-5 years. So there is a huge gap in the experience level. Also depends what you did in 4-5 years in US, how long you been sitting idle now being in India. All this adds up in determining your package. So instead of focusing on pros-cons of R2I(which seems like your time pass), just work to improve your skill set. You should be around whatever package level you like to be at the right time(as I can see you are a confident person).

Honestly, 4-5 yrs is adequate and a good time to move (iff the intention is strong to R2I). I have heard advice before (I also fell for it, but it worked out for me in the end), isnt it unfair for your future wife to not see US and live the honeymoon period etc. But I think it becomes unfair to move back more if she isnt interested so much that time. And whatever if you marry someone from India, you are going to be 5 yrs ahead in seeing US, which means it will always be unfair you are moving to R2I still she has seen 5 yrs less of US than you. Probability of one person doing a R2I is so less (say 10%) both doing together makes it even more smaller (becomes 1%). I think it is worth living the US dream and moving back forgetting it (other than some good memories, but not to the extent of comparing everytime).
I have hypocrazy here, as I didnt do this way. I did get marry & lived with my wife & had kids before moving with approval of wife. But it could have easily not worked for me, if my wife insisted or showed too much signs of unwillingness etc. And this cant be fully negotiated at the time of marraige as well.
