Explicit Commercials on TV ... Causing R2I Dilemma

The Wifey (TW), I and the kids (twins) are busy continuing with the living happily ever after. R2I, thanks to this forum in the help to create our checklist, is to happen soon. The little matter of 'when' is discussed periodically.

Some background: We are in early 30's, married for 7 years, two kids (5 year old twins, sakshat Luv & Kush, even allowing for (grand)parental bias). So things were humming along and then it happened. We found the spanner. To put in the works! Or rather, the spanner found us.

We came upon Indian TV ads for [Edited By Admin]. Yes, you read it right. Our R2I decision became an R2I dilemma due to [Edited By Admin] !

We all know of (and very likely have) the Indian fetish for fair-skin, but the fetish has moved to the skin down south too !! Really! [ ? Aren't all cats …… http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/All+cats+are+gray+in+the+dark ?

Towards the end of the ad for [ Edited By Admin ] , the grandmother is shown typing in the url for the [ Edited By Admin ] ad! What has happened to grandmas? Whatever happened to Nani teri morni ko, and Dadi Amma, dadi amma maan jao? We thought Luv & Kush would sit in grandma's lap and help her surf the web and read Amar Chitra Katha and The Hindu online. Now what... they will help her find [ Edited By Admin ] online?

After r2i, if I am sitting watching TV, the [ Edited By Admin ] ad plays, and my MIL walks in right then, I wouldn't know where to look. Similarly, if TW is watching TV, and my father enters the room, mortification would kill her. We are a very modern couple, but we draw the line at watching [ Edited By Admin ]. ads with an in-law! Do three generations in India really sit and watch such ads together?

We have been readers of the forum for a long while, know that India from our childhood exists only in our mind, and India has changed a lot. But, we didn't realize the change included such jolting ads.

TW is now in two minds about R2I and exposing Luv-Kush to such a decadent environment. Wifey in two minds is a sticky situation.

Any suggestions for us ? :(

It will be very uncomfortable to watch such ads with your kids let alone inlaws etc. I think our quality and values in general is slipping away fast.

Skip having a tv on r2i. Or keep it private in ur bedroom. My son was exposed to fairness ads on kids channel during his summer break. He started questioning his color and our color. I was. Ot sure y he was asking all this out of the blue until I watched the ads on his channel

that is the whole idea! to just be under the scanner (of COC) and still achieve the purpose (of selling a silly gel)!

I think there a phone number or website that you can reach to request blocking inappropriate content from TV.

You just have to console yourself as it is a package that comes with going back to India - but look at the bright side, your twins will learn Anatomy and Biology quicker than the western kids.
