Visa Stamping Expired

My original H1B visa on the passport has expired a few months back but I do have my i94s valid for a good number of period as well as the passport. In this case if I need to take flights to India should I follow particular routes or direct flight only?

Also now I have more than four i94s with me (by virtue of TRANSFERs between employers). So which i94 should I show at the airline counter? Also would there be any checks at airports regarding visa stamping expiry?

Hi - You should check out immigration forums like murthy law or immigration portal ... From what I remember, the I-94 date is the active date they will consider in determining if you've stayed legitimately. However, to re-enter the US you would require a valid Visa stamp. Please confirm at a immigration law forum and double check before traveling.

This is based on my understanding, so that's about it. If you have multiple I94s with you, tear them off from your I797 and staple them together. Hand over all of them at the airline counter - with the latest I94 at the top.

If your visa is expired, some airlines ask you to explicitly get a transit visa (I know BA does). So contact the airline before you book your tickets. I think with Delta/AirFrance (stopover at Paris), Emirates (stopover at Dubai) or Lufthansa (stopover at Frankfurt) you should be ok.

Several years ago, i was in the same situation and was prevented from boarding Lufthansa via frankfurt at philly. Avoid change of flights in Europe. Take a non-stop flight. Delta/American/Air-India used to fly 777 non-stop from NYC/Chicago. Not sure if they do anymore.
