Oh yes! Flew from SFO to JFK and landed around 9PM, had Gone there to rent an apt.
For the first time, I saw many people paying attention to pre flight safety instructions. :)

And almost everyone in buckles through out. It did get bumpy in between but overall smooth and a very smooth landing, people heaving a sigh of relief with a round of applause for the captain.

With subways and shuttles cancelled, had to take a cab thru eerily empty Manhattan to Jersey City. I live just 5 mins walk from Hudson River, on top of it Mine is second floor and was expecting mandatory evacuation, or stranded flight or stuck somewhere in between, but so far so good, no rains or storms yet. On my way back picked up some frozen food, juices however water and flashlights were all gone.

So far so good, but the predictions are for the conditions to deteriorate during afternoon and evening, and may persist until mid tuesday. The eye of the storm is tracking south jersey, but the conditions are supposedly bad north of the eye, which puts much of NJ and NYC under the radar. Warnings are for getting emergency preparations done before noon, and hunker down and brace for the storm. Kids are happy that there is no school today and quite possibly tommorow, but they are too young to understand the implications of the storm. Biggest worry is flooding, power cuts, water, and impact of wind on trees and properties.

Same for Wash DC area. Some rain so far. We have these really big trees behind hour house. So the scariest thing for us during such times is wind. Thankfully this Sandy is not supposed to be too Windy. SO far so good. Heard on TV that our utility company has brought crew from other states (10 if I heard it right) to deal with potential outages. So not expecting long power outage (if at all).

From an experienced person, here are some advice to prepare for the worst:

1. Keep some flash lights handy at home. Ensure that you have a decent supply of batteries. The first impact is typically with power supply.
2. Get a camp stove and some propane.
3. Get bottled water - flooding may result in sewage overflow and typically it is safe to have drinking water handy than rely on public water system.
4. Fill up your gas tanks in your automobiles. They always hike the gas price for some reason or other.

For any extended periods of power outage, there will be demand for ice. A cooler will help and keep an eye on ice supply. Down here, they distribute ice bags when there is an extended power outage.

The above would be of use even if power or water supply doesn't get impacted. They won't go waste.

You should change your TV which supports PAL and 220 V.
