Hi All,
If you look at my previous post i am one of the confused souls who is trying to decide when to R2I. The only thing currently stopping us are questions like
We got GC after 12 years.. why give it up..
What if we give up GC and then feel like going back...
The issue is no one know in next 10-15 years how the situation would be.. maybe having a USC will be a good thing or maybe it will not matter. Is anybody else in the same dilemma?
is giving up us green card a foolish thing to do?

You need to decide what is driving your R2I plan. I am not sure how far you are from being eligible for USC. If there are no driving factor, then my advice to you is to get your USC and OCI and then R2I.

If you are deciding between USC or otherwise, the choice is obvious. If you want to not give up GC but R2I then what are your choices? Can you not try mini R2I for a year? Staying put 3 year as continue stay and then shuttle is another solution but can you offord to do the shuttling back and forth?
Answer to your dilema will depends on questions like above.

my company is ready to have me travel 2 times a year (every 6 months) to keep the GC and citizenship valid...

The way i see it unless you have a compelling reason to R2I, it isn't a good choice to give up GC. For all the good things said about india, life for kids is unforgiving and there is only one way to truly come up in life.

There are potentially many with the same dilemma, including me. Some of the factors that I have lined up, which will hopefully lead me to take a decision sooner than later...
- I do not have plans to stay in the US forever
- Don't have my family living in the US. (This becomes to weigh, once an immigrant starts a family/has kids)
- My kids will end up lonely in the US, if I miss the window to R2I
- As one gets older, wiser, the infrastructure, culture, pollution, inflation, corruption issues take lower priority. Family, stability, going back to your roots takes precedence
- Complicated US tax requirements for green card/Citizens (not only for high-income earners)
It is like part of me is looking for more reasons to give-up Green Card, than reasons to stay in the US.

Going back to your roots, How far do you want to go? Your kids are not going to feel lonely here, i think you already are feeling lonely. The infrastructure, culture, pollution issues just cannot be swept under the carpet. These issues will play an important role in india's future.

Consider following to decide if it is foolish or not..
1) Do you have considerable real estate investment/inheritance in India which is grown in value over the years?
2) Are you dependent on US for work? or earning income in future
3) Are you planning to start any business in US?
4) Are you willing to travel every six months to retain green card?
Most of the time I have seen 1) as primary reason nowadays...specially with real estate in india doing very well.. I had one lady doctor in front of me and she surrendered her green card and got visitor visa.
