r2ikyon;615366I guess you realize that this is fully loaded question.
What I mention below has been said by different members several times on iddferent threads with some variation
India I think will not be suitable or change enough for some one who lived iN UK/US for him or her to feel comfortable.
The change that NRI generally expects is not just physical (roads, restaurants, malls and oother infra) but also intangible things (service, attitude, professionalism, fundamentalism etc).
The intangible society level changes with which R2Ier struggles is very very difficult to change. It takes 1-2 generations.
A very important issue like gun control in US; people dont seem to change or agree. THe discussion is goin on for ever. People's thinking is hard to change. It is the same in India.
SO you will have to adjust/fine tune your self.
No point in waiting for India. You have to be India ready - upgrade or downgrade what ever you want to call it
Agree that people who lived in US/UK won't feel comfortable moving to India even in another 10 years.
But, they should be able to make that jump. Life is all about moving out of your comfort level to broaden your boundaries.
Regarding intangible society level changes, I do see that the service has been improving at a constant pace. Online systems are also becoming more user friendly.
Also, with H4EAD and the increase in influx, it is not getting more and more difficult for husband and wife to get a job in the same city in USA. Even if they get it, the commute in most cases is horrible.
And the billing rates aren't enough to manage kids and save money at the same time. GC is going to take decades unless the rules are modernized.
So US has its own share of problems. But lets not get into that. Strong willed people can overcome them.

Regarding India, a drop in oil prices has been a major boon for us. Since we import almost all of our oil, we are currently paying less than half of what we used to pay before. And the government now is getting more funds through increase in petrol and diesel taxes and less money is flowing out of India at the same time. This is very helpful in short term till we get more people to pay their fair share of taxes.
Also, more and more villages are being electrified at a very fast pace.

Please keep in mind that to achieve complete electrification to every house in India, it would take at least 2025.
For now, Modi government is saying that a village is electrified if they able to supply power to local panchayat offices, post offices etc. which is still a major leap ahead :)

Biggest challenge in India will be:
1. job growth of around 10 million plus every year......what we saw in haryana is an example of what happen when majority of people are left behind.
2. Indian cities are choking due to extremely high population density and bad infrastructure.
IMO, high population is a big problem in India, I dont think there is going to be any let up in the next 25-30 years.

Agree. But we are talking in perspective of NRI ben able to go back to India :)
Especially the smart ones who have saved up and/or invested enough to take that step.

I am talking about the same.
For most people $2million in savings is an impossible task. So we need to be able to work. That does not look like an easy thing in India.
Most of us want to be near to a metro city due to job and facilities..........but these cities are choking due to high population density.

Most of dual income families in Bay Area who have worked 10-15 years have this kind of net worth.

Also, you don't need 2 Million if you keep investing as you get money.
By the time you move, it will be worth much more :)

Rules will not be modernized. immigration attorneys & IT consulting employers will face recession if rules get modernized. They won't let it happen. They don't want us to be get EAD & GC, they want us to keep apply for renew/extend our H1B visas and Renewing Driving License. Now They are asking to apply for H1B amendment whenever we change client, this is like applying new H1 petition application every time we change client location. it seems they purposely not moving the dates even though they have capacity to give EADs and GCs. if we go to india we don't get this much salary but we don't have any Visa issues. India and Usa both has advantages and dis advantages.

Agree 100%
One positive change happened recently is the 24 month OPT extension for students. More to come.
Right now...EB1 loophole is delaying our applications.
In anycase, there are positive things that are happening all around us.
