narsibvl;517912Here is my Dilemma.. I have over 18 years experience on the technical side. My management experience is only to the level of a Team Lead. Now I am thinking of R2I next year. I have an offer(kinda) from my present company in the position of a Sr. Technical Manager. I like the position but I am not too impressed with the initial talk I have had about the compensation package. Now, if I go outside and search for a job, I wouldn't be able to do justice to a senior management role. I would have to go for a senior tech role. My question to you good folks is, does it make sense to go for a senior tech role in India ? What are the Pros and Cons of either side ? How much can I demand as a senior technical guy in Bangalore or Chennai ? Tsozum;588713If you are really serious about moving to India there are only two ways to get a job #1. through your US company #2. network in India. Sites like Naukri or Shine etc is good for entry level job and are no good for management level job. If you are satisfied with the title and the kind of work you will do after you move to India, then you should move forward. Over a period of time you will for sure catch up with compensation. Personally I would put lot of emphasis on kind of work you will be doing and level of decision rights that comes with the job.
Though I agree that #1 and #2 should be internal transfer and networking, I would not completely disregard Naukri/Other sites. My offer came through a connection I got from Naukri. For management level jobs in Naukri clearly mention it to be 50+ lacs, that way recruiters will not bother you for lower level positions. Do not be discouraged by lean periods and keep updating your resume every 2-3 weeks. The senior positions requiring long onsite experience do open now and then and when they do you will find suddenly 4-5 recruitment firms contacting you. Search the firms that have contacted you and select one who had experience in arranging jobs for US expatriates.
It takes a loo..ong time. From the time I first put my resume to the time I r2I'ed it was almost 2 years ( 1 year and 8 months). One problem would be that the US counterparts of Indian firms will keep bothering you for their positions in US where they will ask you to join in US with eventual plan of moving you to India once you have built your team and business. Be wary of such firms they have no plan to move you to India.. (Been there done that :) )
