Post by abb »

It would soon be 2015 in 2 weeks and would like to have views of how much is enough in 2015.
Please can you create a poll like in the past?
Thanks

How much is enough in 2015 ?

I find this whole thing a bit silly, isnt that dependent on what kind of lifestyle one wants and what kind of job one is going to have?

Here is my estimate:

For some one with rs 2 lacs/month job in India, its zero.

For some one who does not want to work and does not already own a house in India, and wants to live life king size. It will be around 10-20 crore.

In cities like Mumbai a lakh a day is not enough for some while others can manage to getby with Rs. 100-150. May be Rs. 35 too if you believe the govt.

So without knowing how anyone wants to live and what they want to do after R2I, it is difficult to say what is enough. I am tempted to quote Mahatma but will resist...

In the past 3 yrs my ave spending has been a bit over a lakh per month including some EMIs, some occasional help to extended family, insurance premiums, etc..In the initial months of R2I I think my expenses were about half a lakh per month excluding one time expenses immediately after R2I which in my case were not much. Anyway, I dont expect other R2I ers to live like me. So apply whatever factor is appropraite and estimate.

The same pole can be used to walt(z) over to 2015. The last poll had the range of a few thousands to a few crores. It is not going to change in years to come. Some would like a grim lower middle class existence, in some 3rd tier podunk town, with a few thousands, and some would want to suffer the high living with a few crores of negative cash flow, in a huge metro.

For an average upper middle class lifestyle with 2 children going to a regular case school, the expenses would be about 70 to 80k per month. This excludes EMI or rent payment. So, you can figure how much you need if you are working or if taking retirement after R2I

Monthly cost of living in various cities poll would be a better one than how much is enough IMO.

if retired then savings of 5 crore in India
and 3-4 million in US. Prefer paid house in country of living

if working then depending on tier of city the expenses will vary but I would say for 2 kids going to school it maybe 60k-1.6 lac PM

where do you folks get these numbers - millions and tens of crores? I know we made the transition from Corollas and Maruti 800s to BMWs and i20s but when did we transition to Bentleys and Bugattis?

Numbers fly very easily in anonymous Internet forums :)

Members are advised to read this thread with a bucket of salt :)

If we can get the prices at unit level, then members can calculate how much is needed as per their consumption. If the rice is Rs.40 a kilo and you consume 10kg of rice per month, then cost of rice is Rs.400 per month.

1. Rice 1 kg
2. Ata 1 kg
3. Dal 1kg
4. Dal2 1 kg
5. Bread 1
6. Chicken 1kg
7. Alu 1 kg
8. Onion 1kg
9. Petrol 1 ltr.
10. Vegetable per week
11. Milk 1 ltr
12. Egg 1 dozen
13. Tea/Coffee powder 1 kg
14. Masala per month
15. Butter 100 gm
16. Electricity / kwh
17. Gas 1 cyl.
18.
Now can any R2Ied member fill this up and complete the list? Average price is ok.
