Any GC holder used the immigration kiosk in any US airport??

Post by return2blore »

Hi,

Has any returning GC holder used the CBP kiosk to do the immigration in any of the US airports? I would like to know the questions one has to answer at the kiosk. CBP website just says: " Answering a set of regulatory questions at the touch-screen".

Do you have a pre-approval for using this kiosk?
To use these kiosks, you need to get a pre-approval check done so CBP can declare you as a frequent and low-risk traveler. I remember trying to apply for it sometime ago but I had to travel to NY for it.
Once you pass the interview which will also include a thorough background check, you will then be allowed to use these kiosks as well as go through TSA precheck (which will save you loads of time).

It's called 'TSA Pre'. Check the FAQs here:
http://www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck/frequently-asked-questions

it has all the details and the list of participating airlines etc. LPR (Legal Permanent Residents) aka Green Card holders are eligible.

OP has asked about the global entry program and not TSA precheck.
TSA precheck also doesn't have anything called the kiosk. The kiosks are only for global entry or the SENTRI programs.

This was my understanding when I landed in JFK last time. But when my son landed y'day, he was asked to use a kiosk, although he did not have the pre-approval. He could not anyway use it because, the kiosk could not read the extension sticker at the back of the GC but only saw that the GC was expired. This made me think that, maybe they have opened up the kiosk for all GCs and USCs.
Would be interested in knowing other members experience if it is any different.

I believe this is called APC - Automatic passport control

Thanks anyway PG.

Thanks DB. No questions to answer?? I am harping more on the questions because, our 2nd son will have to travel alone some time soon. I don't want him to mess up his answers since he is just a GC holder and not an USC.

And of course the camera is aimed just right, if you happen to be five feet tall. Otherwise the computer tells you to crouch and grimace. The INS and NSA think I'm even crankier than I am now.

If you are an USC, you need to have biometric passport to use this facility.
