Sedition row..Timeline and who is speaking truth ?

Post by RBee »

2001 - Parliamentary attack by Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar militant groups.Attack killed 14 people - five terrorists, six Delhi policemen, two Parliament Security Service personnel and a gardener
2013 - Afzal Guru hanged for his role in attack after court's conviction -> Govt. in power : Congress(I) led by MMS
2016 - Feb 5 - Posters hanged in JNU questioning the judicial killing of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhatt
Feb 9 - Before the event, ABVP asks JNU to not allow the protests of DSU (ultra left democratic student's union) as it could harm the atmosphere
Feb 9 - Event takes place. Anti India slogans are shouted by protesters. But some students says slogans started when ABVP tried to stop the protest

I have problem with timeline on why for a 2013 hanging, a day in Feb 2016 is chosen to protest ? And who is telling the truth on who started the scuffle first ?

But after Kanhaiya Kumar (President of Student's union)openly said he has full faith in Indian constitution, he should be released and focus should be on the student who is missing/absconding and is said to have Anti-India sentiment..

Read somewhere that a similar event was held last year at JNU without any problems...

Why does it matter if I eat at 3 PM today or fast for next two days and then eat? 9th February is the date Afzal Guru was hanged.

RBee;623230But after Kanhaiya Kumar (President of Student's union)openly said he has full faith in Indian constitution, he should be released and focus should be on the student who is missing/absconding and is said to have Anti-India sentiment.

Why should he be released for that statement? The question should have to do with what was he arrested for. Are indian citizens required to have full faith in Indian constitution and if they profess otherwise they should be arrested?

If someone is arrested, then police should have appropriate (probable) evidence for the charge made and should prosecute him/her for that charge and let Judge decide; or is professing faith in constitution is enough to drop whatever the charges were?

RBee;623230focus should be on the student who is missing/absconding and is said to have Anti-India sentiment.
Are you suggesting that if someone professes anti India sentiment that that person should be arrested? I am not that familiar with the law but can you quote which law forbids having sentiments that are against the country?

No wonder this kid is in trouble....

He seems to be a bright young lad with good oration.

Still awaiting the case to be dropped. Don't think the authorities have any proof to substantiate charges under the sedition law, per what I read.

The news media for sure isn't a representation of truth.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/govt-denies-ib-report-linking-jnu-protestors-to-jem/article8248148.ece?ref=relatedNews
Some television news channels carried a report that Khalid, who was among the most vocal supporters of Afzal Guru at the JNU event had been to Pakistan on several occasions and received help from the terrorist group to organise protests here.

?We have not issued any such alert. It is a figment of someone?s imagination. You can always attribute anything to the IB, since we don?t come out in the
open to deny or confirm,? a top intelligence official told The Hindu.

A senior Home Ministry official also said that he was not privy to any such IB report. Officials also said that Delhi Police acted in an ?overzealous? manner while handling the student issue at JNU and they could have been hasty in arresting JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar.

...but again, "The Hindu" is presstitute, not to be believed.

So, earlier post was on what that kid spoke against. This one de-links the protestors from terrorist organizations. Now, who exactly said something anti-India? To be seen....

Looks like he couldnt get the bail application in, so, has to spend the weekend in Jail. Govt knows the case of sedition will be stuck down, so why take the risk of arresting him, inviting protests ahead of the budget session?

Boca, what do you think is going on?

following article says, jnu is the final frontier.

http://www.firstpost.com/india/the-final-frontier-what-the-government-and-media-arent-telling-you-about-the-jnu-controversy-2633586.html

What the government is really doing is attacking social science, and democratic socialism, in the name of coming after 15 ultra-Left students. That they arrested Kanhaiya Kumar, the JNUSU president who was not shouting slogans, makes it clear that the government just needed an excuse to ‘crack down’ on JNU.

It is attacking the centres of the most systematic and sharp critiques of state policy in the country. This objective is tied to their notions of repainting history in saffron. The Indian Council for Historical Research has been taken over, as has the University Grants Commission, the Indian History Congress is being starved and discredited.
Hyderabad Central University has been hijacked, Delhi University courses professionalized, and Mamata Banerjee has already done to the institutions in West Bengal in her reign what the Modi government is just starting to do in the rest of the country. JNU is indeed the final frontier of political and policy dissent.

It seems some doctored video of Kanhaiyya shouting "anti-India" slogans is floating around:
