r2ied 6 months back. sharing my experience and need advice

I r2ied 6 months back from Bay area. I am 31, married, 1 kid 2.5 years old.
Currently in Chandigarh.
Salary in india - 1.5 lacs/month
Savings/Investments (1.10 crore)

I lived in US for 3 years. So i did not get accustomed to US life style that much. I could easily adjust in india. My kid is also very young. No problems on that front too.

Problem

My friends and relatives are not happy with my decision. Their arguments-:
1) In india, people are dying to go abroad and how dare you leave US.
2) You are too young right now. You could have spent 4-5 years more and then come back.

Very few in India have appreciated my decision. I know it is my life, me decision etc etc. but they create doubts in my mind whether i have taken a right decision. My r2i decision was motivated by the fact that once i spend 5-6 years in US, then i will become part of the long GC queue and r2i will keep becoming more and more difficult. What do you think of my financial situation? I live a typical middle class life in india. Any suggestions?

Its also true that going abroad is still so damn aspirational here in India. Young college pass outs or soon to be married to NRI brides consult us about living abroad. People ask all sorts of innane questions. I have lost count on the number of times I have been asked this question- BUT WHY DID YOU RETURN? So much so that i dread answering it now.

I go into severe psychological lows at times thinking I am truly a loser for being a little hasty in our move.

If you yourself like living in India, be prepared to answer this question for a long time to come. How dare you gave up on the dream, millions of Indians have been harboring every day 😆😊

Nice post.
When a child wouldn't eat spinach.... we'd say, "do you know how many starving indians (or chinese) would so love to eat that spinach?".... The clever children eventually learn to respond,"send it to them... let them eat it".
Broccoli has the same effect on kids.

OP, there is no right or wrong decision it should be your decision. Are you and your family happy? You should be, life is precious than anything. People did not mature to think that going abroad is an achievable goal now unlike the past. Enjoy your stay there, do what you used to miss doing when you were abroad.

To people who keep bothering R2I returnees with such questions, an erstwhile member of this forum would probably say – Ask them to go fly a kite : ), and I would whole heartedly concur with that proposition.

R2I or LIA or going to Timbuctoo is a personal decision made for personal reasons and should not become a case study for all and sundry. The reasoning and accountability of making such decisions should only lie with the family concerned, and not beyond.

It is impossible to change minds of such overly inquisitive and obnoxious people, but it is possible to ignore them and politely ask them to mind their own businesses.

Also, if you don't mind, can you share a little about Chandigarh.. meaning life style etc. as compared to Delhi / NCR area..
quality / cost of living, cleanliness, govt, schools, medical facilities etc.

I have been back for over 10 years. People do not question my dreams but I do get asked from occasional acquaintance. 'Both your sons are abroad. You can afford to live abroad. Why don't you.'

I just say that I like it here. Some times I do say 'Because you are here.' One lady even blushed when I said that.

Indian people are still crazy about US. Only those who live in US knows where it pinch.

Tell them you did not like USA and see their reaction.

You did the right thing by R2Iing early, else it would be life long pain to wait for GC.
