Don't know if we have a thread for LGBT opinions. Why not? :)

A question to the magenta folks - With the recent transgender issue with choice of bathrooms, what is your opinion on a transgender using the facilities for women? Not discussing the right or wrong. Would you be comfortable?
As a man, I care less if a woman or a transgender uses the men's bathroom. I am there to take care of my business and I don't even bother to notice who else is there.

Most of women here including I use restrooms for the same purpose : ), so why would they be noticing others? As far as bigotry to deny transgender their rights is concerned, women aren't worse than men in my view.

I think this is a 'made up' issue to rally up the social conservatives (the battle against LGBT is almost done, so they need a new issue now).
As far as I am concerned, I do not care as long as the transgender woman (is that even a classification?) does not leave the toilet seat up :-)

If you read my post again, I commented about myself. I didn't comment about other men or women.
On the lighter side, I haven't been into a women's restroom ever. My impressions are from movies where women chat, in addition to doing their business. In movies, when the woman is in despair in a restaurant, she would excuse herself to the restroom to cry. They also use the restroom for quick women-only gossip break. So, in my imagination, was trying to place a transgender in the midst of such small chat that may happen in the restroom, and how women may react. :)
Come to think of it, should ask the men as well. They have daughters in school and how they would feel if there is a transgender in their daughter's restroom. Again, have to imagine such scenario for my reaction, if any, as I don't have a daughter. I think dads would probably be against it, not because of bigotry, but because they probably are a bit protective.

Agree.
People (men and women) go to bathroom for a reason/purpose and leave once they finish their business. Who cares who else is there. This is just a unnecessary topic being raised to draw attention (or deflect real issues). This topic will die down soon unless most states go the NC/MS route:) which is very unlikely.

What's up with toilet seat being up or down? If it is down, one lifts it up. If it is up, one puts it down. Big deal?
Worse are men's toilet habits. Hate when the seat is down and some idiot didn't bother to lift the seat up. Most men are naturally dirty, nincompoops! (had to use a suitable word with "poop" in it. :) )

I am a dad to a lovely daughter. Agree that all dads are a little too protective of their daughters. As far as the transgender-bathroom topic is concerned, I think it is a 'coaching' moment (as needed). I guess it is the new normal. Daughters will do just fine.
