I want to return to India but job?

Post by indian4ev3r »

First of all, hello everyone.
I was honestly searching for such a forum for years because I've always had dilemmas about my life. I currently live in the US and have been living here since the first grade. (I'm in 12th right now). Every time I come from India, I always get this deep feeling that I'm missing many things that I don't get here. I feel happy and get depressed when my Mom talks about how she used to live in her village and how she would celebrate Diwali or attend weddings. So in the recent years, I decided that I will definitely settle in India once my education is over. But here is where the dilemma starts. I plan to get an undergraduate degree in Business Administration when I go to college next year. Since I want to settle in India, I also wish to go to India after my four years to get work experience. But what kind of job would I get with this degree? Will I be considered a better candidate for a good job since my degree would be from India? My honest dream is to live in India because every time I come to America from India, I leave part of my soul behind. But, as the quote at Chatrapathi Shivaji International Airport says, "Indian at heart, global in spirit." It would be great if you guys can leave some advice and it would help me to talk to my people.

There were some cool opportunities when IT was taking off full swing around 2005 time frame but I think those have dried up now. India has too many qualified people and less jobs, so it will be difficult to accommodate foreign workers.

I am not sure how viable this is but getting a job in foreign office and then try to get a post in India would be best of both worlds. Full expat salary with US benefits and benefits of living in India.

Hi.
Thanks for your answer! That was what i had originally planned to do. But the question is, would I be immediately able to get such a job after I complete my four years? And would it be possible with just an undergrad degree in business admin? My wish is to spend some of my younger years in India and experience everything I missed.

You can look for a job in India with your degree. I'm sure you'll find something to get started. Once you have some experience, you can figure out the next steps e.g. job change, further education etc.
I'm sure a bachelor's in Bus. admin would get you something decent to begin with.

My plan was to get work experience with my degree before applying for a MBA in a prestigious college like IIM. But the question is, will I be able to move to India right after I finish my bachelors?

Apply to a company in US which has offices in Indian cities, work for few months or an year and then try for internal transfer to India office. That way you have the experience and job before you move.

Your situation is easy peasy. The most relevant threads of the forum have "how much is enough" in the title. Have your parents deposit money in Indian Banks. You move to India and use the money. Write home letters of your Indian life to mummy. She would once again feel the happiness she once had as a young person. There are plenty of Indian colleges which accommodate that Indian Spirit from the airport platitude. Whenever I had seen Hritik Roshan or Salman khan in college-romp movies, I'd want to attend one of those.

Return and have a romp.

Hahaha. It's just that I've always felt a little worried abkut how I would move because many of my relatives have said that once you go to US yiu get stuck there. But what about all thise qualified people in India? Will i be able to compete with them and get a job?
