OCI In India/FRRO and Status change

Post by cyber007a »

Hello All

If someone takes US born baby to India on Entry/Tourist visa and apply for OCI in India at FRRO, what needs to be done after OCI is approved/collected in order to change status from Entry visa to OCI Card ?

1 ) Does baby need to go out of India and re enter on OCI to legalise stay ? Or no need to do anything and baby can continue living in India as long as we want irrespective of initial Entry visa validity

Anyone applied for new OCI in India for US born child, please advise

My think is very long ago, 15 years so. We came in Visa, at some time got PIO and later OCI. Certainly didn't have to go out and come. Once you have OCI, everything is set. Watch out for that police registration while not in OCI.

OCI In India/FRRO and Status change

11 years back, we had R2Ied with PIOs. Then OCI was announced and we got OCI. As it was within 6 months of our arrival in India, we did not have to bother with FRRO.
It was a simple process, apply on-line (I think), send the docs to MHA. Once approved, drove down to MHA with originals and received our OCI cards and stamps in the passport.

I had no responded earlier as I thought you were only concerned about the baby.
