Here's your answer OP. Go forth and apply! http://www.r2iclubforums.com/forums/showthread.php/37431-aadhar-card?p=654202#post654202

In the application for aadhar card, there is a question about 180 days was whether we already have stayed for 182 days or plan to stay for 182 days in a years timeframe.

I said that I am an US citizen with OCI card. and since I was planning on staying till that requirement was met, there was no issue about lying.

However I have a question for Raj Dhruva. In case the issuance of aadhar card gets delayed or unto 3 months, can I still sell a small piece of ancestral land, in the intervening period? I have a PAN card.

Thanks

One of the Post from Rajesh highlights the numerous websites mis leading people, Similar are some of the post in this forum. Few facts need to be checked before raising basic questions.

Aadhar is not a nationality ID.

NRI ( PIO/OCI ) are exempt from Aadhar linkage to PAN if they have a PAN. You need to update yr nationality in PAN. Yes most systems ( Banks , Brokerages, IT dept ) are not updated to check nationality before asking for Aadhar. Currently all bank ask for Aadhar even for NRI and NRO accounts even though they should not ask. The great Infosys and TCS are the big culprit as they are not advising the Bank CMD's to implement this change.

Aadhar is capture of biometric so people should be aware Aadhar enrollment can be done in person ONLY.

There is something called 'Dont Ask Dont Tell' on certain matters .. its your discretion.

Officially Aadhar card is for Indian residents only. Even a foreigner residing in India can apply for Aadhar.

However, anyone not resident in India should not have Aadhar.

Of course, if you want you can apply anyway.

Not really. Aadhar card for NRIs will be rolled out in 3 months. They are studying how to run aadhaar camps abroad as they need to capture biometric information.

I could not find the exact article but a similar one.

NRIs cannot marry in India without Aadhar card. Same with the competitive exams that require aadhar now.

NEW DELHI: Aadhaar should be made mandatory for the registration of NRI marriages in India to tackle desertion and other marital issues, an inter-ministerial committee has recommended to the Ministry of External Affairs.

The proposal by the special committee on Indian passport holders getting married in India is aimed at protecting the rights of women who are deserted by their NRI husbands or become victims of domestic violence and dowry harassment abroad.

"It has been proposed that Aadhaar be a must-have for registration of NRI marriages (in India)," said a source privy to the contents of the report submitted to the MEA on August 30.

The Unique Identification Authority of India is working on a policy for the Aadhaar enrolment of NRIs, Overseas Citizens of India and Persons of Indian Origin. At present, all residents including Indian nationals and foreigners with valid visas can enrol for an Aadhaar number.

Interesting. If implemented, this contravenes GOI policy. Though I am sure the esteemed panel have not even considered that.

In future no one will be able to buy or sell without aadhar.

Time for jobless people in India to get employed as benamis. And 100 of movies to be churned out with aadhar female benamis killing the real owner or a female ghost getting aadhar card. Interesting times ahead.

Convert these to NRO accounts. Perhaps one can do this from abroad if one has internet access to these accounts.
