Very tough decision-Return to India

Post by jaiaditya »

We have been rocking up and down on the idea of move and it has been such a difficult decision to make.We live in a beautiful city, Vancouver but I always feel something is missing and always miss everything about India. I have been in Canada for 13 years. We have 3 kids oldest one being 10 years. I am planning to move in Early 2019.

Any people in same boat, comments shall be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Yes even we had to make tough decision having stayed 12yrs in UK and both of us working full time and roaming Europe often it's not easy to leave everything and land in India.

But then I am enjoying very much in India with beautiful sunny weather all the time , visiting relatives families quite often, UK savings helping big time in India, 2 already brought own houses ....

What are your pull or push factors? Maybe you can list them and then we can analyse.

Did you watch the Hindi movie Aiyaari? There is a dialogue. Manoj Bajpai says, when you are in a dilemma, you must toss a coin and while the coin is in the air, for that moment it becomes very clear to you want you want.

I also agree with that. Most times, we already know what we want, our judgement just gets clouded and we seek confirmation from others.

Actually we want to have the cake and eat it too.....this is the dilemma of Desi's living in developed countries.

We would rather be in India but then the difference in the quality of life and jobs are so big, we grudgingly stay here.....:(

I envy people who have a good family network, everyone doing good......my whole family is broke, I am better off being here and able to help some of them than be there and go broke myself unable to bear the sight and drain out my precious corpus which would be barely enough for 2 people cost of living...

Thats dilemma of everyone regardless of where they live. I have mentioned this elsewhere on forum, I recently got in touch with a long-lost friend and she just wants to return back to her pahaad in Uttarakhand from Delhi NCR. I guess people naturally miss their childhood and want to relive it somehow.

PS: you should lower case D in desi unless it is you-know-who . Desi has no dilemma from what I cant tell :)

IMO For a middle class person it makes sense to stay in US. If one has to do a job for a living , US/UK are better choices as compared to india where you will face difficult commute, low salary ,horrible bosses and office politics. For me ,no amount of socializing is worth these hassles.
However if you want to start a business or want to retire it is better to be in india.

Thank you for giving valuable insights.

The dilemma with me is if I listen to my heart I want to go back to India but head says maybe no because of uncertainty as leaving a good satisfying job here and going there to no job and looking for one scares me done to spine.

But my main pull to go to India is taking care of my parents as they are lonely there and to have my kids Indian culture exposure

Probably may sound selfish, your parents have almost outlived their purpose. As an adult they can find better alternatives and stay comfortably while you oversee them. Maybe if you have other sibilings, they can help.

As far as culture exposure for your kids to India - it is a subjective experience, nothing is there. Corruption runs amuck in every nook and corner. Other than if you have big extended family, networking will be there. Things have changed. If you get a chance, stay there for a month or two and then make a decision.

Life is very hard. Some adapt well. Some don't. Maybe a statistics of people moving back (R2A) if exists in the forum, will help you.
