How much extreme level you will go to R2I or staying back in USA?

Post by mate4all »

I'm curious to know how much extreme level you have gone or ready to go or known stories from other who wanted to R2I or wanted to stay back in USA?

I would like to R2I but my wife not ready, with small kids in our life I really don't want to disturb my whole life to R2I which I don't know how it will turn out. So I feel like more later you wait in your life more slimmer your chance to R2I.

General human tendancy is to crave for something that is difficult to achieve. R2I can be done anytime, so to LIA people do extreme things, like become an illegal immigrant.

It depends on how strongly the pull is, again depends on person to person.
I thought I was wired to R2I and it will succeed 100%. Hence sold everything in US and went back to India with suitcases the way we got to US. But that was a big failure and also an eye opener for me. I am back here after 5.5 years of sincerely trying various things in India to make it work. Again, I am the problem. I did a very bad assessment of myself and my situation before R2I and paid the price. On the bright side, I don't yearn for R2I and happy to be where I am.

My philosophy now is don't try to boil the ocean, swim against the tide and try to attain the balance or middle ground. Wife and kids are immediate priority now and I am responsible for them. Parents come second and try to manage from US with frequent trips to India and putting them in a comfortable setting.

Retirement opens lot of options when we have money and good health. We can live in India or have multiple homes for seasons around the world,

After LIA for many years whether we like it or not,we change. We do not realize it and many just go for two weeks vacation, everything looks too rosy, nostalgia kicks in and the r2i bug strikes..try staying there for few months and even as a visitor with no responsibilities one will start to complain.

R2I is best when you have a very strong pull like close family, strong network, finance or you return very early.

just with nostalgia as the reason and no other strong pull,r2i is a recipe for disaster.

India or abroad..what I realized is there is no problem with either of the countries,it is just our mindset. One has to know their priorities,be practical, very accepting to things the way they are,be strong enough to take things the way they come to have a success when they move back.

R2I is best early,or retirement.

if you are caught in the middle..unless one is very well to do or get a job which is satisfactory, have close network and can make things sail smooth..it could be tough.

You seem to have changed your view. You were hell-bent on R2I when I last checked.

You developed that philosophy only after you did R2I.
So...looks like it was well worth it.

Problem now a days is the GC backlog which is preventing many from making that move

Being in the middle sux.
All I am trying to do is to settle down with a good job on East Coast....closer to friends and family.

After so many years...I found a good job...but its in Texas....grrrr

H1B is making life difficult. I will surely try again in 2-3 years.

If I get this right and make frequent visits to India....the R2I urge should subside.

True..I went for a vacation for few months his time..I have done it before and had my doubts then but shrugged it off. This time certain things happened and had a broader and more practical view of what to expect.

I still have my moments but honestly it is not so strong.I still love India and would like to spend a long time there but want to do it without many responsibilities. With young kids and other priorities,r2i now is not right for me.Many things have changed plus I have also changed I realized.

My India trips won’t stop,I will go and enjoy to my fullest but I might not think of r2i for some more years.

My tastes and interests also have changed as am getting older But I will definetly travel and enjoy in India whenever I can.

Texas is a nice place:) I am sure one can make new friends anywhere if that’s one of their priorities..East coast is very good but winter sucks big time!

problem raises becoz people travel to India only for 2 or 3 weeks and of course one finds it lovely, colorful and awesome.Vacation to home country is always good.Thats when r2i bug
kicks in..

one needs to stay there for quite sometime and I was able to do it coz am not working right now and it was very much needed for me coz I was in the verge of depression.I even went to the doctor and had mild medication.I got too worried and went back home to assess things properly.

I am glad that I made the right decision to stay there for few months.
there were plus and minus and I still have my moments but honestly when I think in a practical way,I feel r2i now for me is not right..I know many can’t afford to go back for few months and so I want to share my experience so it can benefit people who read this.

After my kids leave home,if I still have the r2i bug..I always have a choice to stay few months a year in our country or even move back.

right now taking life as it comes:)

one needs to also take take care of their health and wealth to retire where they feel like..too much stress over this and we end up only in the hospital for retirement:)
