My adoption story, from India to the USA

I was adopted from India at the age of six without my mother's consent and sent to America to live with a family whom I had never met. There were many issues growing up as an Indian in a white community.

Are you for or against adoption?

You stated in one of your blog post "I will be free to live my life." Are you there yet?

I am reminded of a Tamil movie "Kannathil Muthamittal" (A Peck on the Cheek), reading your blog.

I am not for or against adoption...I am for ethics and rights for adopted children and families. It is so individual and so many issues involved.
As far as being there yet...no I am not there but getting closer everyday.

Welcome to the club. I'm sure you will find answers to a myriad of issues faced by Indians on either side of the shore on a day-to-day basis!

I have just started reading your blog and it is very touching indeed . . am yet to read all of it to fully fathom all the details . . but I do appreciate your reaching out to connect with your "Indian" identity and truly wish you get the answers that you are seeking.

As far as the ethics and rights that you mention, I'm sure things are more standardized and documented now than they were at the time you were adopted. Plus, it is also possible that individual circumstances will differ from one case to another which causes complication of sorts.
