Nope, I'm just a music lover...all those who are involved in producing it should benefit. It's just a moral thing.

Do you remember old songs? How many albums producers/studios got unimaginably wealthy? Benefit should be upto limit. If product is too expensive (which it is) then it will remain rich person's property to listen to music or people will steal it.

Just take example of Redbox. Since its just a dollar to watch new releases, its booming. Online watching should go down due to buffering issues, low quality etc.

Look at iTunes. Its a rip off.

Would you apply the same principle to software?

It is difficult to steal pharma drugs. I have not tried photocopying those yet.

So it is OK to plagarise and to photocopy books at office so one does not have to buy these?

Well may be not you but Indian pharma companies have a long history of doing it, for the benefit of people in India, Africa etc.

[QUOTE]So it is OK to plagarise and to photocopy books at office so one does not have to buy these?Again point is, it should be made affordable to people, so people can purchase them without thinking twice. Case in point, Redbox DVD rentals.

Just remembered a funny anecdote. A famous author of a speciality medical book (considered bible for that speciality) was on a visit to India and during a dinner chat a prof. of a local medical institute proudly said practically all residents read and follow his book and have a copy of the latest edition. The author (also of Indian origin) beamed and asked innocently how every resident could afford such an expensive book. At this the prof., without batting a eyelid said, who will be foolish to buy the original, everybody has a high quality photocopy, infact he announced proudly we have the photo copier right inside the library! the look on the author's face was priceless!:)

It is not a question of benefit to a group (may be deserving) but of legality and ethics. Ethics and legality are quite related. If the copyright is not recognised in India then it is legal to do so, but copying of music (I know it is done quite often) is not legal and the same goes for software and books.
