FIFA World Cup in its 80th year touches down in Africa. South Africa has done all the hard work in preparing for the quadrennial event. Was a huge fan of football (soccer at this part of the world) while growing up and I am getting that spirit again ..
There are tons and tons of links but for people who are not fans of browsing hundreds of links,
I compiled a brief summary:
Defending Champion: Italy in 2006
Only 2 nations have defended their crown in 80 year history (Italy in 1934, 1938 and Brazil in 1958,1962). Can Italy do it again? It's behind many heavy favorites this time.
Groups A-H ( 32 nations with 4 teams in each group).
First match : Host South Africa versus Mexico and Urguay versus France on June 11.
Nations/teams as favorites: Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Italy, France,Cameroon, England, Netherlands, Portugal ...
Players/Superstars expected to give inspiring performances: Too many to list..Ronaldo(Portugal),David Villa(spain),Rooney (England), Argen Roben (Netherlands),Messi (Argentina), Gianluigi Buffon, Rossi (Italy),Etoo (Cameron), Hugo Lloris (France), Lucio (Brazil), Nemanja Vidic (Serbia), Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands), Luis Suarez (Uruguay), Nani (Portugal), Jong Tae-Se (North Korea), Cacau (Germany), Antonio di Natale (Italy).
Let the fun begin on June 11..
Who are you rooting for? I am rooting for Cameroon.

My bet is on either Spain or Brazil.

BRIC is incomplete without Brazil. :-)
FIFA World Cup : 2010
Argentina is they can get past a tricky first round game against Nigeria....
also fancy Holland to make last 4 as well as England.
Brazil looks as weak as it ever has but there's something magical when it plays in a WC and does well
Spain - too much pressure plus not sure how well ca they play a physical match up..
