I am a senior IT executive with about 18 yrs of IT experience. I just moved back to India after spending 16+ yrs in US. I made a lot of attempts to get a job in India while still in US. Unable to do so, I assumed it would be simpler to do it while in India. I have been in India for 24 days and am still in the dark. Not getting any calls despite putting up updated resume/profile in Monster India, Naukri and TimesJobs.
Any suggestions on how to proceed? Would appreciate inputs from people who have successfully done this......

with 18 years experience, you are the forefather of IT. Indian companies do not need forefathers but Young Kids to be in the front and fight till they become forefather :)
If you are not doing internal transfer, Not from IIT, do not have connections then you chances are bleak.

pdixit -
4 months back I had written some stuff based on my take on India Job Search.
Branding, Mode, Flavors and Tips
http://www.r2iclubforums.com/forums/entry.php/285-India-Job-Search-Branding-Mode-Flavors-and-Tips
Please go through this. I am sure a lot of this would already have been crossing your mind during the search phase. Ask for specific further link/tip and I am sure there are big guns in this forum who might be able to help.
Good luck,

venkat786, You seem to be a very mean guy. I would like to see your reaction when someone tells you the same thing when you have 18 years of experience. If you cant add value to this forum, please refrain from mean comments.
pdixit, I dont think you need to loose confidence in yourself. You have worked hard for 18 years and earned your experience. Keep your head high and you will find a job of your liking and satisfaction.

Its very hard to say anything without knowing your profile but in general companies seldom hire for senior roles or postions requiring highly experienced people through monster or other similar websites. You must have noticed by now that most of the jobs related to senior roles are put up there by some HR recruitment firm and not directly by the company.
If you are not relying on networking through friends or tools like linkedin , I suggest that you get in touch with some reputed placement consulants and let them connect you with the available opportunities around.
Venkat786: You are not far off the mark in your comments but let me tell you this. Its the same forthe IT in US companies too. The experience ceiling may be higher than 18 years such as may be 24 years but it will happen sooner or later in US too. Once you have that kind of experience you become a high cost item and you can be easily replaced by a low cost junior resource. The only difference is, in US you will have tough time finding a job in IT once you are over 45. India is far better of in this regard.

OP,
I moved without a job and I have 20+ years of experience. By venkat's standard, I am from the Neolithic Era of Indian IT industry. I found a job within 6 weeks from ToI ad. Good quality jobs for senior people (15+ years exp) are hard to get. Internal transfer and personal networking are your best choice. Go to the Indian Career website of the company that may have the job for your background and upload the resume. Getting direct to the company HR or hiring manager is the best bet. Dont lose your cool - it takes a long time to get a job in India for senior people without referrals.

Venkat,
At your years experience, I have seen lots of folks at the technology centers of I-Banks that have been set up or that are ramping up or hiring - GS, Barclays Pune, Credit Suisse - Pune, DB- Mumbai & BLR, DE Shaw-Hyd, BoA-ML, Calypso - Chennai & Mumbai etc. Also I have seen companies like Amazon - Hyd,Blr&Chennai, MS, Goog having numerous requirements . Facebook is just setting up a new tech center in Hyd and they are hiring director level folks and managers, similarly with Zynga in Blr.
It would be better to go via your network to these places. As the market is picking up in US, these banks are hiring in significant numbers to manage their expanding tech operations / software dev.

I wouldn't be surprised if Venkat786 already has that kind of experience. It is true that finding senior level positions is difficult when somebody with half the experience can do the job.
pdixit is already a senior executive in the US (VP/Director managing staff of 50+ people?) and so he already has required credentials.
However, if somebody does have 18 years of experience as an independent contributor, he/she will have difficult time to find a job and keep it for long. Many a times, 18 years of experience is actually 3 years of experience 6 times over.

I agree with mn_op. After 10 plus its difficult to find a job especially as an individual contributor.
@pdixit, dont lose you heart. keep trying. i hope u will land up in a good job.
