Hi
First of all great to know of this forum. I have learnt so much from you all. You guys are amazing. I am planning to R2I in 2010. I dont know if this has been discussed before, if it is then I dont seem to find it. I tried searching but got 10 pages of results.:emcrook: Well my question is has anybody tried building a solar house in India that would recycle its water to reuse it? I ahve heard of solar houses in Maine and Florida but did not get any info about anything like that in India. Does Indian government give tax incentive for Solar powered houses.
My big picture is to be self sufficient. I know electricity and water are one the two main problems in India and if I dont have to depend totally on the govt on that that would be great. Any comments ,ideas??

virgo_mc,
There are many ppl in India that use Solar power for heating water.
Can it be used for other purposes? Quiet possible, might be challenging and expensive to implement though.
It depends on where you live. I'm planning to live in Nasik that doesn't have any water shortage. But I'll have my own well..so that I'm self sufficient. Many ppl do there.
I haven't thought of recycling the water but will use the kitchen, bathroom water for Vegetable garden. Also will have a compost so that waste disposal is minimized.
You have to tackle things in various ways.

Thanks VRG. I am actually looking for info on installing solar panels in place of the roof so as to generate my own electricity. regarding water recycle I am looking for info on how to use water from say bath and kitchen to be reused for toilets and even bath again.

What do you want to reuse the water for?
If you are looking for 100% recycling - as in potable water - then I think it will be a while before you see that in practice. There is a british company that has developed a prototype for this - but could take years to get into production.
But a much easier option could be to build a septic tank for restroom discharges and use the kitchen and shower water for gardening. You just will have a little bit more piping, but it is apparently practical.

This was discussed under Business ideas/Electricity/water issues threads.
The conclusion was:
1)High initial cost ( 4L to 5 L)
2)Banks loans for low interest (2 to 5%)
3)Max 2BHP motor only can be used to pump the water
4)Occupies entire space on the building top floor
5)Govt (IREDA) has implemented in one of the village in Rajastan/Punjab and the people were very happy as this was the only power source for them.

Thanks babuvrr and bangaloreappa. Do you have the link to the thread that discussed this issue. And has anybody implemented it or tried to do it. Any input would be greatly appreciated
