How is Google Plus for you?

Post by KirKS »

Unlike earlier episodes like MySpace, Orkut, Facebook, Twitter, wherein I waited for quite some time before jumping in, Google Plus account was created within 48 hours of launch.

So far liking the circles concept, one step better than the Facebook.
Liking the integration to Docs, Calendar, GMail, Picasa etc.
Will experiment the Hangout part sometime later.

How is your Google Plus experience?
Have you tried the '+' part?

Right this hour, you don't even need an invite. Just go to plus.google.com and register.
If there is a problem and you need an invite, PM me your email ID.

Kirks, Thanks for starting this thread.

We have +1 installed in our site last week. You can find the Google +1 button just below the thread.
You can mark any thread or any forum of your site by clicking the +1 button.

We also have facebook 'like' button installed on all pages. You can find that just below the header ad.

We offer both choices to members and they can use anything of their choice.

RRK - You are welcome.

Can you or someone explain the 'Like' and "+1" similarity or difference to a broader set of members? Even I would like to learn more.

google closed the register for now. unlike anyone else there is always a class distinction with google. If you are not a chosen few, out of luck. I have been using apple macbook using google chrome sucks, using firefox a breeze, this has nothing against you, just my 2 cents. disclosure : i do not work for apple.

Not sure about accounts in other countries, but in US its by invite only - from the time the news came out I went to plus.google.com (just to see how it is) - got the following message saying its by invite only and asking me to leave email for future. Even for the people who are invited/but not activated yet, it seems they are out of capacity.

"Google+ is in limited Field Trial
Right now, we're testing with a small number of people, but it won't be long before the Google+ project is ready for everyone. Leave us your email address and we'll make sure you're the first to know when we're ready to invite more people.
Keep Me Posted <--- to leave email

Already invited? We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon".

Its interesting to see Google's explanation of how they are out of capacity !! - its google, they can use more servers/capacity if they really want. Limited invites and simultaneous media blitz (in tech journals and also in general media) makes me think that they are trying to create a buzz and make everyone want to have that coveted g+. :) lets see how it is, hope its not another wave.

Sometimes google thinks they own the world, thinking making limited few will do them good.
This is america land of plenty, next time they want to issue ration cards.

The G+ app on my android phone is beautiful.

The circles concept is definitely a big plus.

I also like sparks - google's strength in search is clearly seen here

Tried Hangout, but did not work - this is on a Linux laptop. So need to recheck again

Google is still squashing bugs ( if you use G+ daily you can observe the changes).

Chrome has an extension to import FB contacts - but right now does not work since FB is blocking it

Overall : ThumbsUp to G+
